When an unhappy young boy discovers an older man quietly affixing painted eggshells to a disused wall in their neighbourhood, he begins to understand how even the smallest, strangest acts can leave behind something lasting.
Now on its festival run across the USA, Canada, and Croatia. The World Premiere will be at the 56th annual USA Film Festival in Dallas. Wales/UK/European premiere at the 15th Carmarthen Bay Film Festival. Nominated for Best Short Film at the 79th Yorkton Film Festival. Screening in Croatia at the International Sound & Film Music Festival.

Something Pointless is produced by David Cormican of Fun Republic Pictures and Asa Bailey of BAI-LEY, with executive producers Shawn Christensen and Damon Russell (both Academy Award-winners), Brenden Hubbard (Webby Award-winner), Anand Ramayya (Gemini Award-winner), Dwayne Hill (Emmy-nominee), and Zane Lackey. The film features cinematography by BAFTA-winner Keefa Chan, editing by Laurence Cohen, casting by multi-CDG award-nominee Victor Jenkins CDG CSA, and an original score by Andrea Bellucci (Skydance's Behemoth, League of Legends).
Something Pointless was shot on location in Newport, Wales in May 2025.
Written by Neil Graham and David Cormican — based on Graham's 2010 Canadian Short Screenplay Competition (CSSC) first-place winning screenplay — Something Pointless follows an intergenerational bond that forms between a lonely, bullied boy and an elderly man whose quiet, pointless daily ritual becomes an unlikely act of defiance against insignificance.
The film stars Leo Harris (The Count of Monte Cristo, Lost Boys & Fairies) as The Boy Who Never Smiles, alongside BAFTA-winner Owen Teale (Game of Thrones, Dream Horse, The Rig), six-time Olivier Award-nominee and winner Sophie Thompson (Gosford Park, EastEnders, Coronation Street), and SAG Award-nominee Sule Rimi (The Day of the Jackal, Andor).

'Rebels & Renaissance' will be screening at the CYNON VALLEY film festival on the 15th November in Aberdare @ St. Elvan's Church @4pm -10pm.
Thanks to all the wonderful contributors, on and off camera, and my incredible production team and Ffilm Cymru team & NCC for their support.
My film was conceived as a testament to the defiant power of art. I sought to prove that art is not a luxury, but a vital organ of a healthy society & essential for our humanity, our economy, and our progress. To anchor this belief, I posed three fundamental questions to the artists and community leaders of Newport:
1) How does art move you?
2) What are the non-negotiable responsibilities of an artist?
3) Can art truly change the world?
The search for answers led me directly to the heart of our city's history: the Chartist Uprising of 1839. This was not a mere history lesson. It was a stark reminder that the struggle against powerful oligarchy elites and the fight for justice are eternal. In the work of the charity 'Newport Rising,' I witnessed art fulfilling its highest purpose. They use creativity to resurrect the Chartists' struggle, proving with devastating clarity that their fight is our fight & that the same injustices persist, merely in new disguises.
This is the artist's essential, non-negotiable role, especially in times of deep division: to confront power, to weaponise truth, and to give voice to the silenced. Artists are not mere commentators, they are the guardians of collective conscience. They are tasked with speaking the uncomfortable truths that force us to look, to understand, and to empathise with struggles far beyond our own.
