At the Living Museum, we are not soloists — we are an orchestra.
Collaboration, co-creation, and a strong culture of support are at the heart of everything we do. That is why we are especially excited to welcome an inspiring line-up of friends, progressive studios, and partner social arts nonprofit initiatives to LIVING MUSEUM X OPEN INVITATIONAL during Art Basel Week.
These organizations are united by a shared commitment to artistic practice, inclusion, accessibility, and the transformative potential of art to strengthen communities.
We are proud to celebrate their work, their artists, and the spirit of collaboration that brings this growing network together in Basel.

LM x OI STUDIO SPOTLIGHT : TIERRA DEL SOL from LA, CA !
As part of the larger Tierra del Sol Foundation, Tierra del Sol Gallery exhibits work created in our unique and innovative art studios. In 2019, a space dedicated to the artists of Tierra del Sol was opened in Los Angeles with a focus on expanding the gallery’s programming and connecting the foundation’s artists with a global audience. Tierra del Sol Gallery organizes year round exhibitions and events within the creative community of West Hollywood. We invite guest curators to work with our artists annually, recent collaborators include Alison Saar, Darren Romanelli, and jill moniz. We have debuted artists at the Felix Art Fair, Frieze, NADA Miami, and the Armory Show, as well as partnered with a dynamic range of organizations, including Undefeated, Amazon, Netflix, and Transformative Arts. Our artists’ works have been acquired by MoMA, the American Folk Art Museum, and El Museo del Barrio in New York, New York. All sales go directly to supporting the artists and the foundation, which provides studio space, career support, and materials for artists to craft their work.
Tierra del Sol Foundation is a not-for-profit founded in 1971. We champion inclusion and value for all individuals with disabilities through creative pathways to employment, education, and the arts. A strong and vibrant community is one in which all of its members contribute to the strengths and assets for the common good. Tierra’s vision is that all people live productive and personally meaningful lives, regardless of the notion of disability, as neighbors, co-workers, and contributors to the economic, civic, and cultural vitality of the community.
LM X OI artist spotlight on the one and only JOHN TURSI ! John has made his work at @living_museum_society for thirty years.
In 2002 Roberta Smith wrote : The artist who comes closest to genius status here is John Tursi, whose scroll-like drawings cover the walls of a large double-height gallery. They dazzle. Using mostly the shapes of triangles, French curves and other drafting tools, Mr. Tursi has devised a vocabulary at once organic and geometric that sustains endless variations. With it, he has created a universe of acrobats engaged in all kinds of intimate acts that remain more engaging for their decorative power than their naughtiness.
These figures evoke the coiled energy and perfection of Indian art — specifically the erotic intertwinings of temple sculpture and the saturated palette of Indian miniature painting.
Come see John’s work in Basel June 15-20 !
Great visit to @claratyartsproject in Santa Cruz ! Claraty participated in our San Francisco fair this past January. If ever in Santa Cruz please check them out and follow their work online !
LM X OI ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: ROGER JONES OF @artcollectivenyc !
Roger Jones (b. 1956), born and raised on New York City’s Lower East Side, is a multidisciplinary, self-taught artist. His paintings, drawings, and sculptures often depict dense, interconnected worlds of people and buildings, many bearing a title that incorporates “Love.” Jones is represented by Community Access Art Collective and Fountain House Gallery. His work exhibited in Open Invitational New York, Art Enables’ Outside Forces, Creativity Explored x Open Invitational, and the Outsider Art
Fair.
The Community Access Art Collective is a progressive art studio for artists who have the experience of living with mental health conditions and share a commitment to pursuing their artistic practice and profession. The collective is a program of Community Access, a non-profit founded in 1974, which has grown to become one of NYC’s leading housing, mental health, and advocacy organizations for individuals living with mental health concerns and families who have experienced homelessness. Community Access’ mission is to expand opportunities for people living with mental health concerns to recover from trauma and discrimination through affordable housing, training, and healing-focused services. We are built on the simple truth that people are experts in their own lives.
