“Chelsea Pace never asks her actors if they’re comfortable: ‘Because they might not be, and a lot of actors aren’t interested in being comfortable. They want to push themselves in their art.’ Also, she noted, ’You usually have something stuck to your pelvic area. That’s not comfy.’” When the fact checker read me that quotation, all I could say was, “well, that certainly sounds like me.” 🤠 Thank you so much to Jennifer Wilson and @newyorkermag for talking with me and so many wonderful intimacy humans about our field and how it is changing. Do you want to learn more about intimacy coordination? There is an @openintimacycreatives cohort starting June 22! Happy summer to the northern hemisphere! Open has a new batch of cohorts and a new workshop series to share! The two cohorts that just launched, Intimacy Coordination and Intimacy Choreography, will take you step by step through a production process from interviewing to wrap with lots of practice and feedback along the way. You will work with professional actors and directors, real scripts and scenarios, and build your skills and confidence alongside a group of like-minded and supportive intimacy professionals. Despite all your training and experience, have you felt frustrated (or baffled) by the massive distance between how things *should* go and what happens in production? Keep your cool with Open’s new workshop series: Bend without Breaking! Things on set and in rehearsal often don’t go exactly to plan. With all of your experience and training, it can still be overwhelming when your carefully curated toolkit and process get thrown out the window by the realities of production. In Bend without Breaking, you will learn where your process can flex (and where it can’t) and practice strategies for encountering resistance, collaborating in chaos, and doing the right thing- even when everything is going wrong. Check out the new workshops (and the massive library of recorded sessions) at the link in bio! Scheduling conflict? Time zone issue? No worries! All sessions are recorded for you to watch (or re-watch) on your schedule. - #OpenIntimacyCreatives #OpenIntimacy #IntimacyChoreographer #IntimacyDirector #IntimacyTraining #IntimacyCoordinator #IntimacyCoordination #Consent #Boundaries #BetterIsBetter #IntimacyTraining #IntimacyWorkshops #BendWithoutBreaking #Choreography #Staging #Filmmaking #Theatre

I had an absolute blast at the @lortelawards last night with the SUMO team and saw some of my favorite people. I got too excited and didn’t take pictures with most of them, but what a gift to make stuff with these humans. Photo credit to @rallsop13 and the ✨award winning✨ @amaginnis for the step and repeat bts. Congratulations to all the nominees and winners! What a beautiful night. What a beautiful community. - #LortellAwards #FightChoreography #FightDirection #Wrestling #SUMO #power #mayitheatre #Theatre #Intimacy #Consent #BetterIsBetter #IntimacyChoreographer #IntimacyChoreography #IntimacyDirector #IntimacyDirection #NYTheatre #NYCTheatre #ThePublic #OffBroadway #Theatre

Confidence doesn't come from knowing everything. It comes from having a space to practice and a community to support you when you need it. Building confidence is a massive challenge for intimacy professionals because how can you practice our work without taking huge risks? That's where the cohorts come in. @openintimacycreatives is all about building skills, confidence, and community. The primary vehicle for that mission is the six-week cohort programs. Go through an entire mock-production process from prep to final product with a group of intimacy professionals. Choose an area to focus in (theatre choreography or film coordination) and practice your skills, learn new ones, and get all of your on-the-job questions answered. Get feedback from your peers, directors, actors, and from experienced IC (and Open Founder @professorpace ), and learn about the work by *doing* the work. Ready to get doubt out of your way? Cohorts start next weekend. Taught live each week virtually, recorded so you can catch up (or review a session you missed), and accessible to you for an entire year. Reach out with any questions. See you soon! -- #OpenIntimacyCreatives #OpenIntimacy #IntimacyChoreographer #IntimacyDirector #IntimacyTraining #IntimacyCoordinator #IntimacyCoordination #Consent #Boundaries #BetterIsBetter #confidence #OpenCohorts

Winter /Spring Cohorts are Open! What if you could go through the process of being the intimacy choreographer or coordinator on a project without the pressure? The experience without the exposure? The gig, but with a lot of guidance? The gap between a how-to explainer workshop and actually doing the job can feel huge. To help bridge that gap and build confidence, many emerging intimacy professionals seek shadowing or assisting experiences, but those can be hard to come by, inaccessible, and logistically complicated. Are you ready to test and expand your training and experience? Have you done a lot of intimacy workshops but wondered how to put those skills into practice? Do you stress about the “it depends” answers you get when you ask for advice or feedback on a situation? Do you want to practice doing a show without actually having the pressure of doing a show? These programs were developed to give more intimacy professionals the benefits of shadowing or assisting (see the process modeled, ask lots of questions, talk with actors and directors). But instead of just watching someone do it, you get to talk concept with a director, you will talk story and boundaries with actors, you lead a first day of rehearsal, you choreograph a scene, and you give the notes. Winter/ Spring 2025 Cohort registrations are open now! Cohort size is limited. Scheduling conflict? No worries! All sessions are recorded for you to re-watch on your own schedule. - #OpenIntimacyCreatives #OpenIntimacy #IntimacyChoreographer #IntimacyDirector #IntimacyTraining #IntimacyCoordinator #IntimacyCoordination #Consent #Boundaries #BetterIsBetter

New Workshop Series! Go-to-Moves: Genre-by-Genre intimacy breakdowns for theatre, film, and television. About This workshop series takes an in-depth look at the unique intimacy needs of individual genres of theatre, film, and television. Overview Each workshop focuses on a particular genre. Participants will compare examples, explore relevant themes and tropes, learn strategies and ideas for choreography, and weigh frequent concerns and considerations. Who is this for? If you have a project coming up and the material feels unfamiliar, or if you want to expand your vocabulary, Go-to-Moves is a great place to start. While some of the category/genre terms are more frequently associated with one medium or another, all of these workshops are for any intimacy professionals working in live performance as well as in film/television. The series is kicking off with three new workshops (many more coming soon!). Check out the website (link in bio) for more info and to register for the Rom-Com, Horror, and Coming-of-Age dates! Remember, @openintimacycreatives workshops are always recorded, so even if you can’t make the live session, you have one year of access to the recording and the Open Community Forum. – #OpenIntimacyCreatives #OpenIntimacy #IntimacyChoreographer #IntimacyDirector #IntimacyTraining #IntimacyCoordinator #IntimacyCoordination #Consent #Boundaries #BetterIsBetter #theatre #film #television #romcom #romanticcomedy #horror #comingofage

Let’s talk Cohorts! Have you been looking for an opportunity to shadow or assist? These six-week programs are designed to mimic the experience of shadowing an IC on set or in the rehearsal room—but better. The cohorts take you step-by-step through a production process. Prep the project, meet with directors, work with actors, and give feedback- all with a supportive cohort. The cohorts are small and discipline-specific, the feedback is personal, and the sessions are flexible to accommodate working artists. Need to miss a day? It’s recorded. Want to stay connected after the session? You’re a member of a private online community (as well as the ever-growing Open Community Forum. Cohorts are Open.
