Tree Folk
this week's (late!) image archive post is to mark National Tree Week and celebrates all the amazing individuals, groups and collectives who help to save / sustain / create / use Scotland's trees, who I've had the pleasure of photographing over the years.
- Big shout out to
@romenaforestry from
@scottishforestry , who's community connections work with diverse communities will always inspire me
-
@abriachanforest , near Inverness helps to pioneer routes in tree growing, maintenance, deer larders and knowledge sharing
-
@darroch_nurseries in the central belt are Actual tree seed hunters and doing a great job to repopulate our woodlands with native species
-
@sustainablethinkingscotland in Bo'ness create biochar, which helps them to grow their own stuff & is sold to others too
-
@corylushorticulture also uses biochar, grows trees and bushes in the Lothians area and has started selling my favourite bush, bog myrtle (smells great & wards off midges!)
- Many many trees (over 1 million!) have been planted by Peter Livingstone of Eadha, some with the help of folk like
@propagatecat and
@treeweegie (Lucy has recently established Nature Fix, so get in touch if you'd like to go tree planting in the central belt in 2026!).
- The woods can be enjoyed in loads of
@communitywoods sites across the country, at places like Evanton Woods, near Dingwall
- and talented makers like those at
@realwoodstudios near Jedburgh are turning storm fall trees into furniture, instruments & art.. go see their studio to buy!
So many inspiring tree folk working hard across Scotland!
Long may it last
x
(and thanks, too, to the clients who commission these images, like Scottish Forestry,
@firstportscotland ,
@scottishcommunityalliance , Community Woodlands Association,
@renfrewshireclimate Action Network & many more!)
