The metaphorical birthplace of Out of Bounds Comedy Festival on Congress Avenue will no longer be a dedicated comedy venue. Thank you, 617 Congress, for all the incredible memories.
After decades of festival shows, workshops, and staff meetingsānot to mention the year-round home of @hideouttheatre and its coffeehouseāwe said goodbye to these two stages last weekend. With new ownership planning to convert the space into a bar, the Hideout and hundreds of performers and students have been displaced after 26 years at this location.
OOB Fest 2026 will undoubtedly look and feel different without it, but our commitment remains the same: to support and celebrate our local theaters and community in every way we can. Weāre grateful to be part of such a vibrant and expansive Austin comedy scene.

Submission fees and ticket sales only go so far. Out of Bounds Comedy Festival has been bringing the best of the best indie comedy to Austin's stages for over 20 years. Our 20th festival is coming up November 5-8, 2026, but we need you to make it great - we have big goals! We have made submissions for Austin performers free in 2025, and would love to provide travel scholarships to visiting performers this year, but the numbers just don't add up. So it's up to you!

For over 20 years, and 19 festivals, OOB has brought bold, boundary-pushing comedy to Austin stages, connected new audiences to local theaters, and created space for artists to take creative risks. But ticket sales alone donāt cover what it takes to make that happen.
