serious sunday wisdom from our OTT director, my husband and favorite alien sage @m_iansmith . he’s been trying to teach me this for 12 years and we are…not there yet. progress, not perfection, you know?

@zolita ’s living in a bubble of queerness, and from where I stand I gotta say - water’s warm.

your authenticity is a subversive act. the word has become comically commodified, but its spirit remains. if you do the work to investigate who you really are, to unlearn the cultural conditioning that puts us in boxes and tells us who we’re allowed to be – if you develop the awareness and courage to step into the fullness of yourself, it is, as the wonderful @zanethan says, a superpower. let that freak flag fly. x

this valentine’s day, may we all luxuriate in remembering our first kiss – uncertain, sloppy, and utterly thrilling. if you need me, I’ll be somewhere making out. wishing you the same. 💋

say no to more, say yes to the things that light you up, and watch what happens when you aren’t chronically overextended. rinse and repeat. s/o to @brenebrown for her seminal work on subject – she writes in atlas of the heart that “boundaries are a prerequisite for compassion and empathy,” and I think I should get that tattooed on my arm. x

in sixth grade, I was dancing, asking too-deep questions, and had a closet full of crop tops. proud to say nothing’s changed. what were you into at 11, and does it still move you today?

here’s the (annoying) thing: sometimes the pressure is good for you.

People > possessions, connection > cash. Kindness is the path to joy. That’s it, that’s the formula. ❤️

“separate the source of pain from the stimulus.” an excerpt from my open-hearted conversation with @qveenherby about the ways we process and respond to trauma. the books referenced are pete walker’s ‘complex PTSD: from surviving to thriving’ and @marykarrny ’s astonishing memoir ‘lit,’ which spared me in ways I didn’t know literature was capable during a period of supreme dismantling. I also highly recommend the essential, seminal ‘the body keeps the score’ by @bessel_van , and virtually anything @adriennemareebrown touches. to our healing. x
