As the PURE Ponderosa project comes to an end, we’re excited to share our map with the community. As a token of our appreciation for their support, we’ve provided our final map to both Cenote Eden and Cristalino. Divers will now be able to use these maps to explore and plan their cave dives, as they will be available at both cenotes. We are truly grateful to all team members who dedicated countless hours of their free time to make this project meaningful. @guehq @godivemex @onlycenotes @edencenote @cenote_cristalino_ @emokegueinstructor

A few folks reached out about issues with Satellite Imagery not working when using Google Maps (imagery was not loading). Sebastien has quickly resolved the issue in the background and you can go back from Azure Maps / Google Maps to Google Maps Hybrid if that is your favorite. However, I am finding that Azure Maps is starting to have more up to date imagery in the jungle... so it might be a good time to give it a shot. @arianesline to the rescue and quick turnaround as always

Repost from my friend and dive buddy @patpicos aka @onlycenotes : Over the past year, a team of 15 divers, Playa Del Carmen Underwater Resurvey and Exploration (PURE), spent countless hours resurveying the Ponderosa system with the goal of creating a community of like minded individuals who appreciate having navigational aids for their diving and put their surveying skills to use. Previous maps of the systems have grown outdated and attempts to resurvey and generate an asset to the community have failed until now. We are pleased to report that Ponderosa now sits 68,208'/20,790m long with a few odds and ends that could be surveyed with a bit of courage and foolishness. This is a significant increase over the last map published which stood at 49,274'/14,931m. In the process, the cave was extended a mere 2,135'/650m. A significant amount of relining was performed. Very soon, a large print of the full system will be displayed at Eden main entrance. I would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported this project. A special appreciation goes to those who dedicated time from their free schedules to help with surveying and collecting data in the field. Your effort, patience, and willingness to contribute made a huge difference. This project required a great deal of work, but it was also an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable process, and it would not have been possible without the collective effort of the team. @godivemex @guehq

Gotta watch where you step. This little guy was on the path at Cristalino early this morning. I almost stepped on it. Nudged it off the path into the water with a stick….and he was a feisty bugger snapping at me. Good thing he was only 20cm and pinky finger thick I think this one falls in the nope noodle category!

Another big thank you to landowners letting us access their caves. Patty has been fantastic to work with. Her property has La Gloria and Hilario’s Well; part of the downstream Dos Ojos region of Sistema Sac Actun These cenotes are as close you can get to a Florida cave diving experience. Heavy flow in the main trunks and sedimentation on the side passages. Rancho La Teresita is just south of the Dos Ojos property and is usually open 9-5 for divers and events.

Its the time to be merry. I visited the land ownwrs of Xookab Ha / Mundo Escondido earlier this week to give them a copy of the map we did over the past 3 months. The cave quickly became a favorite of mine. Steve Gerrards book did not lie about how incredible the cave is. Sadly, the cave was walled out and we found very little. It was explored by a star studded list of explorers who left nothing to pick. No big deal as we enjoyed the cave despite the lack of new passages. I suspect the reason is that it is so close to dos ojos and sac actun region and the hope was to connect the two in this area. The main connection was done by Alex Reato to the dreamgate area I want to thank Arya Irmeli and sarahelandau worked with me on this project. We had a lot of fun…lost a mnemo….then recovered it, then had to replace the battery… Please reach out to the land owners for access and enjoy this gem. The Xookab Ha map is available for sale among 7 others (aerolito, concha, chun ya, fenomeno, fenomeno downstream, cocom, and la gloria)
