As the year comes to a close, we revisit an incredible moment from Design Week Cape Town.
Langa’s Lerotholi Avenue became a living stage as Onesimo Bam (
@o_n_e_s_i_m_o_b_a_m ) unveiled Progression IV, alongside a spoken word performance by Uno July (
@unojuly ) and live piano by Ntando Ngcume (
@ntando_ngcume ) – a powerful reminder of how public space can bring art and community together.
This moment, supported by V&A Watershed
@vawatershed ) formed part of Open Langa, linked to the global Open Streets
@openstreetsafrica movement that began in Bogotá and continues to reshape cities around the world.
Open Langa Edition returns on a monthly basis, closing Lerotholi Avenue from 10am to 5pm to test safer, more inclusive streets for walking, cycling, culture and everyday community life. The next Open Langa street experiment takes place on Sunday, 25 January 2026, with monthly editions continuing through to April 2026.
