Nice to get some early-season racing in the legs at @valleyoftearsgravel , even with my usual focus on bikepacking and ultra-distance events.
3rd overall in the amateur field, which looking back would have landed 24th in the pro results. Fun to mix it up and play a few tactical games, and these hard one-day efforts are always good for fitness as I keep trying to improve across the board.
Really enjoyed how dynamic the course was, especially the stretch through Caprock Canyons State Park. Great day on the bike before shifting the focus to hosting DOOM this week 💀

I’m beyond grateful for Fancy Pigeon Media and the work @thisisjmath and @dannyluksa poured into this. Storytelling like this around bikepacking and ultra racing in the United States is rare, and they captured the community and the event in a way that feels honest and deeply human.
It has me more fired up than ever for this year and the many still to come in ways I can't even express.
