Release day! This one has been in the works for a while, ever since I met @thejasonmoran at Moldejazz in 2014, in a quintet with @jonaskullhammar , @krestenosgood and Maria Laurette Friis. When I started working with the @trondheimjazzorchestra , I really wanted to get to work with Jason again, not only because he is a genredefining pianist and one of our generations most original musical thinkers, but also because how he would make us play, and vice versa. Working with Jason and this amazing band has been the type of process you dream about, where you are constantly challenged and led to a new place - So much of what’s on this record happened IN THE STUDIO, not on a piece of paper somewhere else months before. Also, having Jason meet these amazing musicians was something that was always going to be creative; some of scandinavias absolutely finest, and some of my favorite people: Jason Moran - piano Sofia Jernberg - voice Henriette Eilertsen - flute Mette Rasmussen - alto saxophone Jonas Kullhammar - tenorsax, flute Karl Hjalmar Nyberg - tenor sax Eirik Hegdal - baritone/soprano saxophone, clarinet Eivind Lønning - trumpet Josefin Runsteen - violin Hans Hulbækmo - drums Anja Lauvdal - synth/electronics Peder Simonsen - tuba Joel Ring - cello, bass Ole Morten Vågan - bass, arrangements Artwork by @camillenorment , design by @runemortensendesign , mixed by legend James Farber and mastered by Norwegian electronic pioneer Helge Sten/Deathprod, it looks and sounds excactly and nothing like what you would imagine. Today we open our residency as Artist In Residence at @moldejazz with this project - Feeling blessed to be in this company. Buy the record!!

Arild R. Andersen, Aftenposten "Wiik, a disciplined thinker, finesses each melodic fragment with the precision of a surgeon, following each idea through to its logical conclusion but what’s astonishing is his ability to do so at breakneck speed with the illusion of ease." Tom Greenland,The New York City Jazz Record "Herlige Saker!", Christopher Monsen, Jazznytt "Det här torde vara en av mest hörvärda trioskivorna just nu. Billetter: 270/170 juret.no

Maciej Obara Quartet feat Mathias Eick / The concert at Cosmopolite marks the premiere of an entirely new repertoire - written specifically for this collaboration. The result is an expressive and dynamic musical landscape that both renews and amplifies the quartet’s unique character. Obara’s quartet has previously released three critically acclaimed albums on ECM Records: Unloved, Three Crowns and Frozen Silence. Mathias Eick - known for albums such as The Door, Midwest, Ravensburg and When We Leave - contributes his unmistakably lyrical tone and sense of spaciousness, qualities that have made him one of Norway’s most renowned jazz artists. In dialogue with Obara’s intense and poetic expression, new sonic possibilities emerge - ranging from melodic openness to explosive rhythmic drive. This will be a rare opportunity to experience a brand-new chapter in modern European jazz - presented for the very first time in Norway. Line-up:
Maciej Obara – saxophone
Mathias Eick – trumpet
Dominik Wania – piano
Ole Morten Vågan – double bass
Gard Nilssen – drums

It is OUT!! «THIS IS WUPPERTAL!» is the latest record from this project dating back 11 years, since our first gig in @jazzfest.no in 2014. The lineup includes some europes most amazing improvisors, and this record really showcases that fact - this one is all about THE BAND. Captured live on a tour of Europe in 2024 and at @moldejazz during our stay as Artist In Residence this summer, it is a blend of old and new tunes, with some outrageous improvisational statements from these master musicians. Feel blessed to have been able to play this music with these people for so long! Please enjoy.
