Being selected for the Urban Redevelopment Authority @urasingapore (URA)’s 4th edition of 20 Under 45 is both humbling and deeply meaningful to us. Beyond the work itself, this recognition affirms our belief in architecture as a way of shaping everyday experiences with care, imagination and responsibility, and not just drawing nice plans. It is also a reminder that the role of architects today extends beyond form making, to listening, collaborating and navigating the very human realities behind every project. We are grateful to be alongside peers whose work we admire, and whose practices continue to expand what architecture in Singapore can be, and who it is for. For us, this is encouragement to stay curious, keep things humane, and continue building with a sense of joy. ———— Background on the award: The fourth edition of Urban Redevelopment Authority’s (URA) ‘20 under 45’ programme recognises 23 Singapore architects who exemplify excellence in contemporary architectural practice. Collectively, they highlight the vital role architects play in shaping Singapore’s built environment and reflect the evolving nature of architectural practice today. Their work demonstrates a strong commitment to design quality – from reconnecting people with nature and sensitively restoring heritage buildings, to creating diverse and memorable living spaces. Beyond their professional practice, these architects also contribute to the industry and community as mentors and advocates, nurturing the next generation of architects and designers. First launched in 2004, the ‘20 under 45’ programme by Urban Redevelopment Authority recognises young emerging Singapore-registered architects for their design excellence, ideas and leadership and the positive impact of their works on the built environment and communities. Across its three previous editions in 2004, 2010 and 2017, the programme has spotlighted 60 architects, many of whom have gone on to deliver impactful works locally and internationally, strengthening Singapore’s architectural standing.

AR003 | Silo House • After two rounds of judging, including the submission of our physical model for the second round, we’re happy and honoured to share that Silo House has been awarded the 2025 Golden Pin Design Award under the Spatial Design Category (Architecture sub-category). • Established in 1981, Taiwan’s Golden Pin Design Award @goldenpindesign is one of the most influential design award in the global Huaren market, organised by the Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI). It celebrates design excellence and outstanding performance among independent designers and professionals in the design industry. The award recognises exceptional commercial products and projects submitted by design teams and industry experts. Each year, through a rigorous and impartial judging process led by industry leaders, over a hundred works receive the coveted Design Mark, honouring their outstanding design achievements. A total of 429 entries spanning 13 countries were awarded the Golden Pin Design Mark across four categories: Product Design (155 entries), Communication Design (95 entries), Spatial Design (113 entries), and Integration Design (66 entries). AR019 | House of Keeping • The facade is composed through layers of solid and void. One side recedes into a deep-set opening, while the other is defined by a flush grid of glass blocks. The blocks reveal nothing outwardly; they filter daylight inward, softening it before it enters the home. Textured paint and timber louvres complete a restrained material palette. Greenery is threaded through every level, tempering the scale of the house and marking moments of pause within daily routines. • 📷: @studioperiphery

Behind the scenes of the mural painting <Blueprint of a Shophouse> • Blueprint of a Shophouse reimagines the technical language of architecture as a public artwork. The mural takes the most literal tool of the discipline, the sectional drawing, and projects it at a 1:1 scale. What is usually confined to paper becomes a full-scale slice of a shophouse, transforming a technical diagram into a lived-in scene that blurs the boundary between drawing and dwelling. ID038 | Dwelling of Hues • At the heart of the brief was the desire for functionality: a larger kitchen, ample storage, and a work loft. But beyond utility, the clients brought with them a rich palette of personal tastes, emotional affinities with colour, and a growing collection of artworks. This formed the foundation for a home conceived as a living gallery, immersive, expressive, and deeply personal. • 📷: @studioperiphery (photos 3-6)

EX045 | Blueprint of a Shophouse • Blueprint of a Shophouse reimagines the technical language of architecture as a public artwork. The work celebrates the spatial richness of the shophouse typology by illustrating a cross-section that layers past, present, and speculative futures. Within its frames, viewers encounter vignettes of Joo Chiat’s history: plantations that once defined the landscape, bustling kopitiams, and domestic interiors that speak of everyday life. Alongside these familiar memories, imagined futures unfold, such as vertical farms embedded within heritage walls, hinting at the adaptability and resilience of this architectural form. Beyond nostalgia, the mural is an homage to the anatomy of the shophouse. Its layered construction, porous thresholds, and capacity for reinvention are laid bare for all to see. At the same time, the work offers the public an introduction to how architects represent space. What is often seen as an abstract or inaccessible drawing becomes a legible and playful composition, inviting passers-by to step into the mindset of the designer. Blueprint of a Shophouse is both educational and whimsical: a mural that reveals while it entertains. Viewers are encouraged to trace the many stories embedded within, from communal gatherings to quiet domestic moments, from heritage memories to speculative futures. It is a visual journey into the enduring life of the shophouse, and an invitation to reimagine the spaces we inhabit every day. • Project Team: Lee Hui Lian, Lim Pin Jie, Jerome Ng and Shivshankar Nair In Collaboration with: The Admin and Lucas Goh Supported by: URA Lively Places Fund Sponsored by: Nippon Paint, Luxconex, EDL • 📷: @chan.psb

AR003 | Silo House • At Silo House, the appreciation of light, shadow, and rain is woven into the daily experience of living. A rain chain captures the poetics of tropical rainfall, transforming a common occurrence into a quiet spectacle. Natural daylight is cherished as much as the shadows it creates. Glass blocks diffuse light playfully throughout the day, while ventilator blocks bring in rhythmic bands of daylight and gentle breezes. Against textured surfaces, plants find their place as living art, offering softness and shade while filtering the harsh western sun. • Archi: @omgatelier Interior: @this_is_habit • 📷: @khoogj_
