Sacraal offers apocalyptic folk song structures, gothic funeral hymns and eerie industrial sounds, with organ-driven intros and moments of deep introspection and profound spacial length, evoking the feeling of gazing at stars in the night sky and deep nostalgia. With Sacraal, ISKANDR will see perhaps another shift in focus towards ever more breadth and genre defying experimentation—another stepping stone in the path. Iskandr • Frozen Fest 2026 Depuis 2023, O. réoriente le projet Iskandr d'un black metal typique de la scène néerlandaise (dont il fait partie des piliers contemporains) vers un son doom folk psychédélique, avec Spiritus Sylvestris, dernier album en date. Le projet, désormais solo, s'imprègne des ambiances éthérées et industrielles de Dead Can Dance, d'influences 60s et 70s marquées, tandis qu'une imagerie très cinématographique de ruines médiévales et de forêts enchantées accompagne le projet. En live, le multi-instrumentiste accompagne par ailleurs ses sonorités de projections qui participent à l'aura mystérieuse et envoûtante d'Iskandr. En exclusivité, l'artiste présentait son nouvel album (à paraître en 2026) au public du Roadburn le weekend passé, un opus qui pousse encore plus loin les expérimentations musicales personnelles d'O. et que nous sommes très heureux(ses) d'accueillir en juin prochain. It took a little while to process what happened this Thursday and I was in a lot of doubt about posting anything at all about this. I am very sorry to say I couldn’t play the set I wanted to at this years Roadburn because of technical failures. For the entire duration of the show the clicktrack was playing over the PA system, something we couldn’t notice on stage at all. How this could have happened is being solved internally, and I have been treated very well, fairly and lovingly by the Roadburn team afterwards. If anybody was wondering why there was a loud sample playing the beat during much of the show, even in very quiet ambient passages, now you know it was not supposed to happen. It’s not how Iskandr sounds. A show we worked for months to make happen and a chance we will never get back. I’m pretty devastated. I don’t like to sound overly dramatic but it’s really not easy to try to bring this outsider music to life in this world, and these moments often make me doubt about whether it’s worth it. . I do want to extend an extremely heartfelt ‘thank you’ to my brothers @john.b.jones and @tcmusic_nl because they played beyond amazing and poured so much energy and effort into my musical world. I also want to extend this gratitude to the audience members who were there and gave me a lot of words of solace and encouragement afterwards! . . . Beautiful photography by @ravenvandorst

Tomorrow is the day I will have the honour of performing an exclusive preview of my new album before the audiences of @roadburnfest A fitting start for this new chapter of Iskandr, since this festival really feels like home to me. It will be the eleventh time performing on it’s stages in different projects, which sounds quite insane, and especially young me from the past would never have believed this! I’m deeply gratefull to @john.b.jones (organum, backing vocals) and @tcmusic_nl (trumpet, trombone, flugelhorn) for accompanying me on this special occasion. .
