This May, Gazelli Art House presents Taste and Decency, a group exhibition bringing into dialogue pioneering female figures of Pop Art with a younger generation of contemporary artists, including Rosie Gibbens, Jann Haworth, Rachel Maclean, Olivia Sterling, and Idelle Weber. Olivia Sterling Featuring Francis Bacon 𝙋𝙄𝙏𝙔 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙈𝙀𝘼𝙏! On view through 18 April 2026 East Gallery, Norwich, UK @oliviaster @eastgallery_norwichuni This exhibition presents a new body of work by Sterling in dialogue with a single painting by Francis Bacon, “Two Figures in a Room” (1959). Together, their works explore the distortion of the human form under social and psychological pressure, treating the body as a contested site; stripped, compressed, or mocked, to confront systems of violence and dehumanisation. While Bacon’s work reflects internal, existential trauma and the horrors of the flesh, Sterling reframes these concerns through race, identity, and cultural specificity, foregrounding the external, societal violence imposed on the body. This is not a retrospective homage but an exciting activation of Bacon’s work through a politically charged lens. DISCORD & HARMONY ⭐ Meet The Artist: Olivia Sterling ⭐ Olivia Sterling's paintings are saturated with colour, honing in on closely cropped bodies, food and drink. These bacchanalian scenes are at once slapstick and serious, addressing racial hierarchies of skin tones, body image and prejudice.
