Artist Studio I Install - Caroline Bachmann In the 2000s, Caroline Bachmann turned to landscape painting, exploring what might still be possible within such a historically established genre. A recurring element in her work is repetition: by painting the same motif again and again, the familiar gradually becomes strange, opening up new ways of seeing. Her process begins directly in nature, where she makes quick pencil sketches and notes colors and atmospheric impressions. From these sketches, slow and carefully developed paintings emerge that evoke less an objective landscape than the memory of a lived moment. For the exhibition “Der See und die Sonne” at Meyer Riegger, presented on the occasion of Gallery Weekend Berlin 2026, Bachmann traveled from her home on Lake Geneva in Switzerland to Geneva Lake in Wisconsin, USA. Over the course of five days, she circled the lake, capturing its landscape, light, and atmosphere in sketches that were later developed into a new body of work in the studio. Throughout the gallery spaces, these new paintings of the American lake encounter earlier works depicting the original Lake Geneva. - Diana Pfammatter offers in her ongoing series Artist Studio I Install a rare glimpse into the often-hidden processes of artistic creation. For this edition, she has invited artist and filmmaker Franziska von Stenglin to expand the campaign with a moving image layer. @carolinebachmann_ @dianapfammatter @meyerriegger

Sheila Hicks 𝙍𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙉𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙖𝙧 @ateliersheilahicks Exhibition presented as part of the project Material Matters: Sheila Hicks and Shi Hui 🗓️On view through 2 August 2026 📍West Bund Museum, Shanghai, China This exhibition brings together two major figures in contemporary art for whom material matters. Sheila Hicks (b. 1934, American, lives in Paris) has been active on the international art scene since the early 1960s, working primarily with fiber, color, and structures. Shi Hui (b. 1955, Chinese, lives in Hangzhou) has developed her own language since the 1980s, exploring paper pulp, pure white, and poetic spatial forms. Both are pushing the traditions of art making through experimentation using humble materials in innovative modes. Ulla von Brandenburg “Schüttelt Schattendramen aus dem Ärmel” @ulla_von_brandenburg On view through 7 June 2026 📍Ernst Barlach Haus, Hamburg, Germany For five months in the summer and autumn of 2024 Ulla von Brandenburg was a fellow at the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto, where she immersed herself in Japanese culture. She explored the various types of Japanese puppet theatre, festivals and their rituals, traditional architecture, with its accent on thresholds and transitions, the rich repertoire of dyeing techniques, the popular belief in a vast throng of yōkai – benign spirits or evil demons – and finally an aesthetics of opacity and half-light, which the author Jun’ichirō Tanizaki described in 1933 in his now famous essay In Praise of Shadows. __ Images: Ulla von Brandenburg, “Schüttelt Schattendramen aus dem Ärmel”, 2026, installation views, Ernst Barlach Haus © Ulla von Brandenburg. Caroline Bachamm 𝘿𝙚𝙧 𝙎𝙚𝙚 𝙪𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙞𝙚 𝙎𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚 @carolinebachmann_ On the occasion of Gallery Weekend 2026 @galleryweekendberlin 🗓️On view through 13 June 2026 📍Meyer Riegger, Berlin Bachmann works with a form of attention that is organized through duration: she lingers, observes, takes notes and captures fleeting constellations of light, weather and atmosphere in drawings. The paintings show the lake as a space that continuously changes and is redefined over the course of the day. 📍Meyer Riegger Caroline Bachmann The Lake and the Sun May 1 – June 20, 2026 Opening: May 1, 6–9 pm On the occasion of Gallery Weekend 2026, Meyer Riegger is pleased to present a new series of paintings by Caroline Bachmann entitled ‘Le lac et le soleil’[The Lake and the Sun]. For the creation of this exhibition, Bachmann travelled from her native Lake Geneva in Switzerland –the habitual visual source of the artist’s landscapes –to Geneva Lake in Wisconsin, USA. Once there, over the course of five days, Bachmann circumnavigated the lake, capturing, in sketches, the body of water and its surroundings from all sides and across different times of day. Sketches that were, back in the artist’s studio, slowly translated into a body of work that form a portrait of her home’s transatlantic namesake.
