There are only 1063 mountain gorillas left in the world, and over half of them live in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. I am unspeakably grateful to have spent the last week there with
@nellkalonji , not only because seeing gorillas in the wild is my biggest dream but because I got to see some of the most beautiful country. We look ridiculously close because we are - that’s why we’re wearing masks, so that the gorillas are protected - but we trekked to them with people who know the animals and mountains like I know Edie and my bedroom, who couldn’t have made us feel safer, and who are profoundly passionate about their conservation.
Also infinite thanks to
@abercrombieandkent whose new
@aksanctuary - which is literally in the park - is basically heaven on earth, and who are doing some truly incredible work in the local community, from supporting the Batwa people who were originally indigenous to the forest, to addressing period poverty among young women in the region. More to come soon
@britishvogue , in every conversation I will be having prob for the rest of my life, and as the soundtrack to the slideshow I will make all of you sit through next time I see you.
