I can’t reiterate how cool it is meeting Ciara as PA once upon a time then somehow finding myself photographing her first big deal. Not many people know how to direct a movie full of kids, run a tight ship, and still manage to have their humanity be present through it all. “Remember, you’re only here because I trust you” is the greatest line any creative can get walking into set—but for unit photography it’s truly special, allowing us to be a shadow with no limits. That is what creates what you see, through how I see.

“A BOY WITH A BIRD” for @ciara_borgards and @nia.raee — a @usccinema MFA thesis. I met Ciara what feels like now a little over a year ago as a PA on a shoot. It’s really cool to now see her direct and be brought back in such a capacity to have her say “just do your thing, I trust you.” That is a unit photographer’s best compliment. Thanks to @nia.raee for having me, re—uniting with @mrorigin ’s incredible lighting and meeting @olifernal ’s incredible set design. What a way to kick off another semester of “film school on my own terms” continuing my path of learning with USC’s sets.
