The Trouts are smiling at the end of the first week of rehearsals for The End and we expect you’ll be smiling at the show, too. Even through it’s called The End and is about 2 characters named Death, we swear it’s a comedy. Can’t you tell by the Trouts laughing? Tix and volunteer opportunity links in bio

THE END is coming in just a few weeks. We've started rehearsing, we're building set pieces, we're figuring out costumes. Tickets are selling fast, if you haven't booked yet, it's probably time. And if you're looking a different way to support The Old Trouts - consider volunteering at our upcoming Casino. Our biggest fundraiser of the year will be June 20 and 21 at Deerfoot Casino. Links for tickets and for signing up to volunteer are in our bio.

THE END It’s about the day that Death met Death – a puppet show with puppets so tiny that we can’t even see them, like an existential flea circus – but you can hear them, and imagine what’s happening to them, as if you were using audio binoculars. We’re calling it micro-puppetry™. Or maybe sound puppetry™. Haven’t decided yet. Whatever. You decide. Just don't miss it. Link to tix in the bio

Curious about what it takes to build a hauntingly good theatre production? This edition of Banff Centre Presents transports us back to the fall, when the @oldtroutpuppetworkshop , @abtheatreprjcts , and a dedicated cast were deep in rehearsals for their atmospheric production of Sleepy Hollow. Founded in 1999, the Calgary-based company has a rich connection to Banff Centre. Yet this project offered a new creative challenge. Rather than centering puppets as the main storytellers, co-artistic directors Pete Balkwill, Judd Palmer, and Pityu Kenderes wove elements of puppetry—especially shadow work—into a chilling retelling of the classic story. Set a decade after the American Revolutionary War, the tale follows Ichabod Crane as he encounters a village where old fears simmer and the Headless Horseman rides once more. With a philosophy rooted in reinvention, the company embraced experimentation and the thrill of trying something new. With support from The Slaight Family Foundation, Banff Centre helped bring this world premiere to life before it travelled on to Calgary to play for Alberta Theatre Projects audiences. It was a spine-tingling journey from studio to stage—and we can’t wait to see where their imagination leads next. #BanffCentre #Theatre #SleepyHollow #AlbertaTheatreProjects#TheOldTroutPuppetWorkshop #TheSlaightFamilyFoundation #Events #Theatre #BanffCentrePresents

Mask Making Laboratory :: INSIDE THE MASK :: The playfulness of abstraction (Towards New Artistic Expressions) WITH Carlos García Estévez & Manifesto Poetico This hands-on mask making laboratory invites participants into a dynamic exploration of abstraction in mask performance, blending visual creation with embodied theatrical expression. INSIDE THE MASK is both a creative laboratory and a performative search into new potential theatre forms, where abstract form becomes a living, expressive force. Through guided movement explorations, participants will analyze and embody the principles of motion, using the body as a tool to inform and inspire the construction of their own abstract masks. With simple yet versatile materials—primarily cardboard—they will experiment with the dynamics of form, structure, and color, learning techniques to design and build masks that resonate in dramatic space and evoke strong audience engagement. By merging movement, design, and performance, INSIDE THE MASK opens a doorway to bold, imaginative storytelling and offers participants a glimpse into the evolving language of tomorrow’s theatre. Dates: Monday June 15th - Friday June 19th 10am - 5pm Daily (45 min for lunch)   LOCATION: OLD TROUT PUPPET WORKSHOP (3640 15a St SE, Calgary, AB)   EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION $525+ GST Ends March 29th FULL REGISTRATION $600+ GST To register contact Elaine at: [email protected]   Cancellation Policy There are no refunds on tickets, but a spot can be transferable to another participant if organised by the buyer. THE LABORATORY FOCUSES ON:     •    Understanding abstraction     •    Creating 3D forms     •    Exploring how movement informs visual design     •    Discovering potential between performer and object     •    Mask construction     •    Study of the inner mask     •    Improvisation     •    Movement technique Daily sessions will combine the constructive aspects of mask-making with movement techniques and explorations that serve as a source of creation.
