As our fingers and toes begin to thaw in preparation for spring, our winter seasonal team members also begin to turn their attentions back to their jobs in the great outdoors (and in our dear @carolinetobin7272 ‘s case, a move back to Chicago),

Today is a bittersweet day, it is our dear Jade @formerlywitchcitybaker ‘s last day here at OBS, before she heads off to a huge opportunity to lead the bakery at August First in Burlington.
While we are gutted to say goodbye to someone who has brought so much joy to all of our lives, we are excited for her new, big step that is so well deserved.
So much gratitude to Jade for bringing her world class talent to our little general store. For all the perfect pastries, breads, and sweet treats - I know we all have our favorites (my top 3: sesame miso bagel, honey sea salt twist, black sesame corn crispy treat), plus her humor, kindness, and utter professionalism. I’m proud to have been in the kitchen with her, and proud to call her a friend. Thank you, and congratulations, Jade. We’ve been damn lucky to have you. Can’t wait to see what you can do in a bigger, better space!
While we manage the transition to a new team, we’ll have a limited selection of pastries for the next few weeks, but we will endeavor to keep baking many of the same favorites you’ve come to know and love. Stay tuned for updates, and thanks for bearing with us in the meantime.

Since taking over the Brick Store two-plus years ago, we’ve strived to make it a place that is welcoming to all, a place for people to gather, get warm, get fed, and get to know each other, whether they’re Charlotters or just passing through.
We always want to be here to serve our community. However, we will be closing early tomorrow, Friday, January 30, at 2pm, in solidarity with the people of Minneapolis and across the country who believe in a better future for all who live here.
From 7:30am to 2pm Friday, all profits will go to @migrantjusticevt an organization that is supporting Vermonters every day.
If you’re interested in showing your support, there will be a rally at City Hall in Burlington at 3pm. If not, we’ll see you Saturday morning.

Here is a Very Good Kale Caesar™️ that @kareezyfbaby whipped up this week while you (or we!) were away. Anchovy-free, umami-packed dressing on hearty but tender lacinato kale, with a perfectly jammy egg that blesses the whole bowl✨
It is my dream caesar and was so good on the first test that it’s a full send for tomorrow 🚀
