Fun one for @fox.mfg . Such a pleasure working on this logo and designing different foxes. Isaac is an incredibly talented builder so I felt it was important to try and represent that in the log somehow and we wound up with this fox and hammer.

Years ago I was asked to do an illustration featuring the National Parks. I came up with this idea of doing little vignettes around a map of the US. The inspiration came from placemats (for eating) that I used to have when I was a kid. It turned out that little landscape vignettes weren’t as simple as I thought, and it took longer than expected, but the end result was really spectacular! Although I don’t think this design was ever published, unfortunately.

These are some sketches off the cutting room floor from a while back. I was brought on to do concept sketches for a travel agency. It was a sketch-only project, but sketching is my favorite so I was thrilled to dig into hand drawn badges and letters. Anyways I was quite happy with how these various logos turned out and thought I’d share them!

Larry came to me and asked if I could do something like DaVinci’s Vitruvian Man with a guitar, as a logo for his shop. I came back with a sketch of DaVinci flying on his glider with a guitar and said how about this? Larry, being the cool guy that he is, said yeah let’s go with that.

In all seriousness, ideas usually start out as feelings, and the first concepts are sometimes derivative. I started with the Vitruvian man holding a guitar, but I knew I’d seen the image before, so I kept working until I arrived at flying DaVinci. It feels nice when you can take the seed of an idea and turn it into something totally different but still within the same world.

This little DaVinci makes me smile. He also looks like Jerry Garcia which is great. It all just came together on a lot of levels, I think—I’m really happy with this one. Cheers Larry!
