OK Recording Studios

In 2019 right before the world shut down Error Type 11 rejoined to dust off and record 2 unfinished songs from before they took a hiatus. Recorded in multiple studios across the country, here was our contribution recording Phil’s guitars. Later sent off to the great J. Robbin’s for Mixing. Thanks to Karen for the shots and Hayley for the video editing.

—INCOMING MEGA TRANSMISSION PT 2– 1) The same Yamaha Recording kit mic’d up and ready to go for my first engineering rodeo on @graymonitor ‘s single, “Autonomy” 2) @kevvta & @lcreaser723 ‘s amp set up comprising of Keith’s vintage Super Reverb and AC30. 3) Post-tracking @graymonitor band photo in @karen_zukowski ‘s beautiful garden oasis right outside the studio! --INCOMING MEGA TRANSMISSION— Hello pals! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on here, but hopping back on to share what I’ve been up to for the last little while! It’s been an absolute pleasure the past few years to have helped my wonderful friend, @iamkeithmoore , get his recording studio, @okrecordingstudios , up and running again. It’s been an even greater pleasure that he’s taken me under his wing to teach me the ins and outs of engineering, mixing, and production all the while! I’m so so proud, and wanted to share with you all some fun memories 🥹 1) Keith and I recording guitar layers for a song of mine that’s yet to see the light of day. 2) The beginning of my journey in the studio…mission 1: hanging up the last of the tricky pieces of sheetrock in what used to be a hayloft in the barn/horse stall that comprises the live room! 3) Helping Keith set up drums for a test run, shown here is his custom rig for a fun set of bongos 4) The aftermath of cutting out all those floor joists from the hayloft, so much headroom makes for some sweet acoustics! 5) The live room…alive! After so much sheetrock work, painting, cleaning, and adding lighting 😮‍💨 Drums sound so so sick in here now. 6) Walkthrough of the neighboring control room as I record Keith demo-ing drums in the new live space. 7) A magical moment of Keith and I dialing in some sweet amp tones for @horribletimingnyc 8) A drawing for the studio’s socials that I made. 9-10) A mess of wires and mics for recording @bhbarth ‘s mega kit on @reekingaura ‘s newest album. This was an amazing Album we Recorded last Summer that is finally getting closer to be released! Two songs are now available to tickle your ears. More to come very soon! April 17th this will be officially released on @profoundlorerecords A lot of work went into this album and we are really happy with how the @dan_swano_official Mixing & Mastering came out! The STROMA (@stroma.band ) EP is shaping up to be something we are extremely proud of. It gives me great joy anytime I get to use tiny amps on a record. They do something no EQ or Filter can add to a production. We somehow don’t have any pictures of Ben (@jaminusa )recording vocals. The amazing Jordan (@jordan_johnston32 ) from Gray Monitor (@graymonitor ) laid down some awesome vocals for us, elevating the songs even more. Thanks as always to Hayley O’Brien (@hobrien117 ) for all of her help, especially with providing some great Synthesizers for the record! In early production conversation Ben (@jaminusa ) mentioned the desire to record both of his beloved Fender Super Reverb Amps together. This sparked an idea to me where we could use our Shotgun isolated splitter from @radialeng to record through both amps panning them hard Left & Right. We also setup an M/S pattern room mic reinforcing the stereo pattern while also retaining the mono energy and low end. It sounded so much better than I imagined! And saved time as it gave us the result of a layered sounding guitar with just a single take. 📸 @karen_zukowski

Great weekend with @stroma.band . We’ve been working on production notes a for a few weeks now and finally hearing it pay off has been amazing. Everything is sounding amazing so far, and we’re trying some new recording techniques on the Guitar tracks that have been mind blowing to say the least! Our assistant engineer @hobrien117 was busy this weekend so I had to handle the white board myself 🫠 📸 @karen_zukowski

Had a great time at @nofunshows last week hanging with the guys in @stroma.band At the end of the night Ben and I got into a discussion of his love for Fender Super Reverb Amps. Being that he has 2 and spoke of his desire to record them both simultaneously reminded me of a cool recording trick, this is where you take two matching speaker cabinets (in this case would be combo amps) and face them towards each other. Wire one of the cabs (or combo’s) out of phase. Then place a microphone with figure 8 polar pattern in-between the 2 cabs (combo’s) facing each speaker. The result is a super cool sound as the speakers pushing/pulling away from each other. Other thing I remembered was the amazing Fender Super Six Reverb Amp I found with @thomas.anderer.7 which he used as a bass amp on some of the @greyskiesfallen @bravethewaters & @buckshotfaceliftny albums.
