A new story by @wornbriar , highlighting @canopyokc , reveals how artists transformed an abandoned service station into an artist’s abode. This is the vision and craft of @okiedust and @barboza_art —a story of art, grit, and community.
The film premieres at the Canopy Art Center in the Plaza District after the Meet the Maker event with Carlos Barboza at @dnagalleries .

Well folks, we did it! We’re 1️⃣ year in. It’s hard to believe. The transformation has been so drastic and so fast that it seems hard to recall where we started.
I just want to take a moment to express gratitude to my co-founder, Carlos, and my studiomates; Dylan, Maeve, and Tony. Without them, this place wouldn’t have its character. Each has contributed in their own unique way to make this space what it is… and really it’s hard to define what it is. It’s a workshop, and a gallery, and a gathering place. Somedays it feels like an ad agency, somedays it’s a car wash, and some nights it feels like a karaoke bar!
We collectively owe a huge thank you to our neighbors; The Plaza, The Hix Crew, Grinmore, Lyric Theatre, and the Plaza Walls team. In 9 months of operation we’ve been able to collaborate with each of these organizations independently. Our mission to host events, release collaborations, and facilitate art and culture are realities because of these hard working and likeminded neighbors.
Lastly, but not last at all: a huge thank you to our families and friends that helped along the way and had patience with us during the chaotic build out. The support we’ve had through this startup has been foundational and has helped us get to where we are.
Whatever this is, its beautiful and it’s had us covered for a year now. I’m brightly looking forward to more here at Canopy. I took a few flicks this morning of the space now that we’ve hung the 13 foot pencil and the lowrider bike from the rafters. Not too shabby.

I drew these images for AT&T to use on some promotional merchandise this season. It’s fun trying to capture character and likeness in cartoon form. Always starts with pencil and paper and slowly develops. I am a busy person and enjoy my spaces highly decorated, so I practiced my preference and really laid into the collaged background. I tried to build as many references as I could think of to make this a personal piece of art. All built in illustrator with pen tool. Let go Thunder!! Yee-haw!!⚡️⛈️🏀

Another beautiful weekend with my beautiful family in the ol’ Winne Wagon Friend Ship™️. This weekend we visited crystal clear Lake Murray for family and fishing. Real nice local fishermen gave me a whole package of lures that worked. The weather was just interesting enough to make memories. I caught my first walleye and not knowing they have teeth grabbed it by the lip like a real full-time chump. Dogs got a good swim and nice hike. @kristenvails is the mother, navigator, and dog walker of the year. Is this a great state, or what? #Oklahoma #LakeMurray #MinnieWinnie
Basketball Goal Post: Last year we ended up with a basketball goal after hosting the Converse SGA shoe release. Unexpectedly, our little lot became a neighborhood basketball court. It’s been amazing to see an unoccupied corner become a place. Early mornings and late nights there may be people hanging out and shooting outside our shop. It’s been something pretty special over the last year.
Well, a couple weeks back, some rowdy folk decided to break the goal entirely. Broken pole, broken backboard. Total bummer. 👎

I went down to Norman for a few days to paint up this little Kei truck for @thestandard_norman ! I painted a retro ghost sign for Cameron and The Standard a few years back and he asked me to brainstorm some ideas for a truck he just shipped in from Japan. I love these little trucks, and look forward to painting more! Such a fun and functional vehicle. I love bringing new life to old cars. This will make for a great sign and utility vehicle around shop! #Sambar #KeiTruck #Subaru #subarusambar
Painted a couple skate decks for an upcoming show at @plazawalls , May 7th-8th during LIVE on the Plaza.
Both were painted with spraypaint and acrylic. I let the boards sort of dictate the process. Mistakes and flaws turned into ideas. I really enjoy free flow pattern making and experimenting with colors and metallics. Both decks will be available for purchase at the show!

Kristen was invited to participate in the Festival of the Arts Pro-Am Gallery hosted by @gsmjr . Kristen was paired with Sue Ann Arnall and painted this 36x48 acrylic canvas of 3 of her personal horses. Sue Ann and Kristen both share a love for art, horses, and social equity. Proud of her and inspired by her many abilities. Very glad to see her get an opportunity to paint. Great job, @kristenvails ❤️
Got some good vibes in with friends of over 20 years celebrating @cainechris ! Newport Beach with a bunch of rowdy no-coasters. We went to Monarch Beach Golf Links and caught a Padres / Angels game. It went by too quick!

Thanks to my friends at Modern Wheel & Alignment and @hedrickauto for getting this beautiful blue piece of blessed acceleration back on the byways. Balanced out, new brake system, u-joints, radiator repair, and front shoes. 💙
Over the last six months I’ve replaced and repaired a ton on this rig. Hopefully it’s rolling as solid as ever. Still some kinks to work out, but for the most part dialed in. Time to finally put some more paint on it now that it’s runnin’ mean. See you on them streets!
