We hosted a compost community giveaway at The Well with support from @_red_dirt_collective_ and the @redearthgroupsierraclub ! 35 gallons of nutrient-rich compost from @fertilegroundok went out to home gardners and composters in celebration of International Compost Awareness Week🪱

An incredible evening of compost and community at @crosbieheights community garden! We helped @scrapscommunitycomposting build out a large compost bin from food waste donated from local businesses and neighbors that will then feed the community garden ✨🌱 "Feeding the soil that feeds us" is this years #icaw2026 theme, and we couldn't think of a better way to honor the mission 🙌🏽🌎 Celebrate International Compost Awareness Week @icawusa with us at one of our events in Tulsa and OKC! Our OCASA board member, James Taylor — with @scrapscommunitycomposting — led a collaboration with Tulsa Parks and Rec yesterday in celebration of International Compost Awareness Week! We sifted compost from their first bin and used the nutrient-rich finished product to plant seedlings for their future community garden. We then started a germination area for more seedlings that will utilize heat produced from compost and helped work on their mini greenhouse! It's through partnerships like these that we actualize the benefits of composting in our community as it supports healthy plants, happy people, and public spaces. #icaw2026

Workshop Two: Take Home Worm Bins by the OCASA Education Committee, 10 a.m. 🤎Participants will learn the basics of composting with worms and will have the opportunity to build their very own worm bin to take home! Workshop Three: Small Space Sustainable Garden Practices for Both Beginner and Advanced Home Gardeners by Travis Andrews of @nfsokc 11 a.m. 🤎Participants will gain tangible knowledge of how to create a sustainable garden by learning how to make homemade fertilizers and pest repellents. 🗣️THE BIG SIFT🙌 We’ve been celebrating International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) 2026 all week and we aren’t stopping yet!! Join us tomorrow, Friday May 8 from 12-5 p.m. in Tulsa for a compost sifting demonstration at Emerson Elementary! Come learn the importance of sifting finished compost and get ideas on how you could sift your own. This event is open to children only from noon-3 p.m. then adults are welcome to join from 3-5 p.m. This is our last ICAW event before COMPOST FESTIVAL 🎉 happening THIS SATURDAY @scissortailpark from 9-1 p.m. Be sure to stop by Emerson tomorrow then roll on through to Compost Fest on Saturday! We’re going to have a FREE clothing mending 🧵🪡 station at COMPOST FESTIVAL, our ICAW finale, this Saturday, May 9 @scissortailpark from 9-1 p.m. The amazing Earnie and Hanz from @badtayst_design are going to mend your clothing that need a lil TLC! Earnie and Hanz can do mostly small holes 2in- smaller, sew in buttons, and help hem crop T-shirts and jeans for summer! They will bring a sewing machine and iron to offer quick hems and simple patches as well. They are also willing to teach people how to do some hand stitching techniques and allow folks to watch them use the sewing machine to learn some techniques themselves. And for those without a machine, Earnie and Hanz will share some resources! :) Earnie and Hanz can mend mostly any fabric that isn’t spandex, leather, wool, latex, or silk. cottons, denims, and polymixes are preferred. No threads and needles to sell but they will have plenty to use! They are both so excited to be at COMPOST FEST 🎉 this Saturday!!!!
