Call For Short Films, Video Arts and Digitally Projectionable Photo Story
SHALA_Neighbourhood Art Space, in collaboration with OITIJ-JO Collective, is doing an Open Call for Short Films, Video Arts and Digitally Projectionable Photo Story from the Bangladeshi artists /photographers / filmmakers to be presented at OITIJ-JO Creative Hub, East London as part of the Backyard Biennial.
Backyard Biennial will be a free, summer-long multi-disciplinary programme of exhibitions, installations, residencies, participatory projects and live events, working both inside and outside the gallery with local partners and initiatives, unfolding over 8 weeks. The programme is part of Whitechapel Gallery’s celebration of 125 years. The Backyard Biennial will be held from 15 July -6 September, 2026. More details /zdd1rib
OITIJ-JO Collective, based in London, UK, is dedicated to providing platforms for creative practitioners to collaborate & enhance British/Bangla engagement with wider global communities. OITIJ-JO Collective has been invited to be a partner and collaborator for Backyard Biennial. For this program, OITIJ-JO Collective is collaborating with SHALA_Neighbourhood Art Space.
Submission Criteria
Short Films: Narrative fiction or documentary less than 10 minutes
Video Essay: Explained/interpreted/argued in the video form less than 10 minutes
Video Art: Any form of art in video format but less than 10 minutes
Digitally Projectionable Photographic Project: Photo stories presented in the video format with text and context. Not more than 10 minutes.
All films/ works must have English accompanying translation of texts / dialogue.
Who Can Submit: Those living and working in Bangladesh.
Theme : Open to all themes
Exhibition Format: Digital
Screening Fee: We are working on it but not sure yet.

At our third Iftar gathering, alongside @oitij_jo collective, we will be discussing critical discourses and celebrating the diversity of the Bangladeshi diaspora in the context of @laisulhoque 's explorations of ambient citizenship and personal archives. 💗💗💗This week we had two incredible Valentine’s Day cooking workshops + supper club nights at @artsadm ! 💗💗💗
On Wednesday we were joined by an intimate group of 12 to learn the art of roti making and curry recipes from the head chef of @oitijjo_kitchen . On the menu we had jhalmuri, root afza, potato stuffed rotis, five spice vegetable curry, rice, chicken curry and desi rice pudding with compote (kheer)!
On Thursday evening we hosted the amazing team at @muzz_app and their Gold Members for a Valentine’s Day special meet cute - Food For Thought. It was a wonderful evening filled with trying new recipes and building new connections!
We want to thank everyone who attended one of these sessions this week. Hope you all enjoyed the company and the food. And a very special thanks to the team at @muzz_app for helping curate such a beautiful evening.
