I think I’ve finally recovered from all the fun that was had Saturday night 🫠 There’s not enough words to express my gratitude for @sweaterfunk@theknockoutsf@guillermoesseff@ren_sweaterfunk@just_another_sol for making it a successful fundraiser and @djninasol and @sfdjbcause for the amazing sets they through down. Wow! I’m overwhelmed with the generosity I’ve received over these last few weeks. I have so much gratitude for everyone who has donated to the go fund me, helped me prepare my home, picked up groceries and prescriptions, spent time with me while I figured things out, laughed and cried.
It’s so difficult to ask for help and be vulnerable. It’s difficult for me to receive help and not give something in return. These last few weeks have been a lesson in breaking that transactional way of thinking. It’s been a lesson in receiving without taking; gracious acceptance. The love and support I’ve received from my family (both new and existing), friends that are family, friends, folks I haven’t spoken with in decades and people that have never even met me but read about me is insurmountable.
I’m also grateful for my future donor. The selfless act of being an organ donor will give me a new lease on life. A life of being healthy(ish) and independent and full of possibilities. When I’m on the other side of all of this I will exude the love and support I’ve received from you all. I will honor my donor and swear with all of their heart and my being to see and seek the beauty in the mundane and the extraordinary. I swear to be gentle, intentional and remarkable in how I show up and move through my life.

Times are very hard right now and I know money is tight, but @ohhellnoel is someone near and dear to me, and their presence is priceless. I've grown up with Noel, but words evade me when trying to explain how much I adore her. I am maintaining my optimism so I'll focus on celebrating her full recovery ahead of time.
If I had the money, I'd pay for this all myself, but that is not my current case. I turn to my circle because hopefully others have resources to spare. Help when and where you can. This would be a great birthday gift to me if looking for ideas.

This month we are celebrating the late great Steve Washington aka Fearless Leader aka the multi instrumentalist and producer behind legendary funk bands such as Slave, Aurra, Civil Attack and Casanova.
Slave's Just A Touch Of Love and Watching You are regularly mentioned as an entry point to boogie and the era of funk we love at Sweater Funk. Aurra has been featured heavily ever since the basement days with tunes such as Checking You Out, Make Up Your Mind, Are You Single, Such A Feeling and more. Steve's sound was a major part of our early sets in the basement and is still packing Sweater Funk dancefloors and goes to show that his sound will always resonate with dancers of all generations. Thank you Steve Washington, thank you Fearless Leader.
