Bug asked awhile back if I would subscribe to his YouTube channels, I was like wtf, let me call your mommma!? He explained if he had one or more, if I would follow. Story time - Back in 2018, me and my boys @4ways_ent put up $25K to shoot a short film called Slippin in the Darkness @slippingintodarknessfilm . We submitted to 70+ festivals… and kept getting hit with rejections or “it’s not a crowd pleaser.” I’m sitting there thinking, are they watching the same film I’m watching? Then one festival, the Official Latin Film Festival, saw it differently. They gave us Best Short Film (much love @dannyhastings ). What we didn’t know at the time… the festival was connected to HBO. We ended up winning the 1st HBO Latin Short Film Competition, which led to a 2-year distribution deal on HBO. Before that win, during the festival run, I had used a @berner415 song in one of the scenes (the one from this post). I posted the clip on IG… it got hella likes… then out of nowhere, Berner hits my DM. We didn’t know each other at all. He said his music had never been in a film and asked for a link to watch it. I was gassed and shocked that it made it to my guy… so of course I sent the link. We left it at that. Fast forward, after the win, I started building more connections. In 2021, I did my next film In Broad Daylight. I hit up my bro @goldtoes to see if he’d help produce and put a little money in. He believed in us, saw the vision, and showed love. From there, Toes made a real introduction between me, the team, and Berner. Now it’s 2025, I’ve had hella losses (financial, emotional, personal). I’ve had many blessings, my two boys remind me of them daily. I’ve put in a lot of money, time and sacrifices into various films and projects just to show what we’re capable of. And now my first feature film SPLASH CITY @splashcitythemovie that I wrote and produced is coming out on @lionsgate … still doesn’t feel real. Thank you Bern for believing in me and what I bring. I’m from Yuba City, California. Opportunities like this aren’t at hands reach. So if you’re reading this and you’ve got crazy ideas and dream big… keep going. Trust yourself. It might go left, right, upside down before you see results. But if you keep going and bet on yourself… you’ll be amazed what God will put in place. Thank you 🙏🏽✌🏽
