Earlier this week, OFT, @ohioea , @columbusea , and the @centralohioworkercenter hosted an interactive collective bargaining training for students from Northland High School. Students learned about collective bargaining and role-played a bargaining session as either a union member or a management representative.
Urgent: HB 698 will receive its second legislative hearing tomorrow! This dangerous bill would expand the attack on Ohio's public colleges and universities that started with the enactment of SB 1 (the Higher Education Destruction Act).

Why we're organizing our union:
“We library staff deserve equity, a living wage, safety, and respect while serving our community. I love the library, I love the work we do, and I know that staff having a voice will only improve our ability to do that work. Our union will raise up and empower our voice.” — Kim, Customer Services Specialist, Southeast Branch

Congratulations to OFT member Linda Daniel, STEP Instructor at Vanguard-Sentinel Career & Technology Centers @vsctc , and her students, for leading a project that got her school recognized as a Model of Excellence by @skillsusa . For the project, students in STEP (Students Transitioning to Employability with Purpose) built beds for children in need.

Why we're voting Union Yes:
“As a full-time, exempt employee, I am able to make a living from my work. I support unionizing because that should be true for every single worker at CML. There would be no libraries without the people who shelve our books, run our programs, or deliver our materials. Essential work should be compensated with livable wages and affordable benefits.”
— Christianna, Adult Services Librarian

Amazing #earlyvote rally with @amyactonoh hosted by the @cincyteachers@oftunion@aftunion in #Cincinnati. Ohioans are ready to move ahead after 16 years of @republicans rule has left too many working families behind while the rich get richer. Thanks to the @cincinnatiaflcio for the photos.
We're outside the Hamilton County Board of Elections with @cincyteachers@ohaaup@ohionursesassoc@aftunion to remind people to early vote for @amyactonoh ! She'll stand up for healthcare workers, patients, educators, students, and all Ohio families!
Why are we forming our union?
“Library workers are facing loss of funding, increasing demands from administration, and intensifying burnout all while still maintaining steadfast support to the communities we serve.
For me, unionizing acknowledges our struggles to find useful solutions, as well as recognizes the exceptional care we exhibit in our work everyday.” — Celeste, Youth Engagement Specialist, Franklinton Branch

Many of us are showing our union pride during Spirit Week at CML (for #nationallibraryweek2026), including this fantastic remix of our logo from @celesticus , a Youth Engagement Specialist at the Franklinton branch!
"When library workers unionize, we collectively become stronger." — R.C., Library Associate and member of Grandview Heights Public Library United.
One reason so many Ohio library workers have joined OFT recently (six library systems organized, with a seventh waiting for their union election) is because library workers need a voice in their workplaces to ensure the vital mission of public libraries always comes first. #nationallibraryweek2026
