Reasons why to vote Down The Lees for Best Band in Kelowna. We are finalists. 🤘
1. Why vote for Down The Lees for Best of Kelowna
2. “Down the Lees are too talented a band to toy with such trite predictability, and even if their music is less conventional because of it, my gut tells me that they’re all the prouder for being as unique as they are.” - Indie Band Guru
3. Down The lees has toured internationally, supported bands like Brutus, Pile, and Sparta, played countless festivals, recorded with Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies) and JUNO-nominated engineer Jesse Gander.
4. Laura Lee is the best hair whipper.....and can belt it out.
5. Andy is a machine. The heartbeat of DTL.
6. Chris makes heavy look effortless.
7. Down The Lees believes independent music communities matter, that all-ages spaces matter, and that women, queer people, and outsiders deserve to take up space loudly and unapologetically. Whether through crushing live performances, DIY touring, or projects like Girls to the Front Fest, DTL is committed to building scenes that feel human, inclusive, and real.
8. “Down the Lees defy pigeonholing into any genre, unless “powerful and inventive” is now a genre to itself.” - Metal Digest
9. DTL is cute.

Song by Song - Douse
This Is What It Feels Like
Down The Lees
We’re breaking down our concert film one song at a time.
The third song in the set is Douse, a track that began in Belgium and was finished in Canada. It’s an anthem for anyone carrying the weight of the world while still pushing forward. And oh boy, do we need something to keep us moving forward these days. I wrote it as a reminder to myself to keep going.
Musicians, artists, anyone with a craft can relate to that push and pull of just existing while trying to pursue something meaningful. But really, don’t let anyone douse your flame! Regardless of what you do.
Full film in bio.

‘Dirt’
We’re breaking down our concert film one song at a time.
Dirt was born in Belgium and later became the title track of our 2024 EP.
Living in the Okanagan the past few years has made the climate crisis feel very real. It’s so dry and hot and every summer there are wildfires. Mother Nature is burning and what do we do about it? We don’t scream loud enough. It blows my mind when people say, “it’s not as bad as last year”, while watering their huge, green lawn in the middle of a 30 degree summer day.
“So many blinders, there is no planet B, now you’re on fire.”
We also commissioned poster artwork from Norah Bowman, with proceeds going to the BC Wildfire Recovery Fund.
That carried into the film - burning and burnt mountains throughout, with lighting cues amplifying the emotion.
Top tip: watch the full concert film in a dark room and on big speakers. 🔥
