L👀k! I designed a book!
This is a family project I’ve been working on for a while now, and it’s so great to finally have it in hand. Written by my cousin, D. A. Chase, and illustrated by her son Ryan Francis Peirce, it’s been a real learning journey together, and I’m happy to say we got closer because of it. It’s been a wonderfully heartfelt and silly project to distract from the heaviness of the real world. There are family references sprinkled throughout, (newspapers and printing presses, yay!), and more books to come, to incorporate other magical, cultural characters. Working on the hardcover version now!
BTW… does anyone I know publish EPUBs from InDesign files, using adobe fonts? Our first epub releases on D2D and KDP have been a little bumpy, and I’m looking to improve them. Please lmk if you have any experience or resources? I need a lesson!!

I have a gazillion things to do to pack up and get ready for this weekend’s LA Printer’s Fair @printmuseum … and yet … while “product testing” and assembling this second batch of my Handy Stamps, I fell down a rabbit hole of making maximalist bookmarks. I guess that’s a good sign, right? 🤣 See you in LA, all the way in back at booth D8. Come on by and make your own bookmark, and try not to be one obsessed like I am.

Introducing: Letterpress-inspired Handy Stamps!
Lots of non-printer folks have asked me if cast lead ornaments for printing could also be used for craft stamping and teaching kids. The answer is a yes, with reservations about best practices for handling lead.
So… I decided to make a few curated sets of engraved rubber stamp ornaments, designed to be used with stamp pads. Engaging, easy to handle, fun to play with, and no heavy metal or big equipment required. You can repeat, alternate, rotate, switch colors, overprint, and/or ghost print to embellish notebooks, letters, envelopes, or whatever you want.
Yesterday was my first launch, at the Bay Area Printers’ Fair in San Jose, CA, and the concept did really prove itself! I was in my element assembling these the night (and morning) before, utilizing my package design chops to make these sets as cute and functional as can be. I’m so pleased with how it all came together. Our testing sheet at the fair turned into quite a collaborative composition of various patterns and colors.
