The story behind Nopalera. A message from our founder. 🌵

The real change happens when the BIPOC founders of today become the investors of tomorrow.
The energy required to constantly explain one’s experience is exhausting.
I look forward to the day when we no longer have to do that because decision makers (investors, retailers, service providers, banks , etc….) are made of people like US.
I have seen several founders of color get blasted by their own communities for selling their companies.
I understand where this comes from — decades of our labor and ideas being co-opted, claimed, and monetized by dominant culture and profits not flowing back into the communities that bore them.
BUT, this is precisely why more BIPOC founders need to succeed and exit — so we have the FUNDS and TIME to pour back into our communities. Instead of operating just one company, fuel dozens.
Think about the bigger picture.
Gracias San Miguel de Allende! 🌵🙏🏽
Lots of hills, colors, and local collaboration to bring our new launches to life.
We can’t wait for everyone to bring their favorite Nopalera scents into their shower rituals.
I’ve always said - it’s going to be us that helps us. That is exactly what the Rosales sisters are doing. Six hermanas created the @rosalessistersscholarship to provide leadership and financial resources to first generation and immigrant youth in the East Bay.
They’ve awarded over $200k in scholarships to date.
The change happens at the local level.
It was an evening filled with couture by @celestinocouture , mariachi, and community impact.
Thank you @camifromtheinternet for bringing me in to this powerful room. It was my pleasure and honor to deliver the keynote.
If you can see her you can be her.
There was a lot we didn’t know at the beginning, and there’s still so much we’re learning now, but the vision was always clear in how it should feel and who it was meant to reflect. 🌵

We’re so excited to welcome Sandra Velasquez as a guest speaker at the Austin Summit
Â
Sandra is the founder of Nopalera, a body care brand inspired by Mexican heritage and centered around the nopal cactus. She’s built a business that feels incredibly distinct - blending culture, storytelling, and premium positioning in a way that has helped the brand stand out in a crowded market.
Â
Her perspective on building something culturally resonant and commercially strong is exactly why she belongs in this room.
Â
This is the kind of founder wisdom you want to hear firsthand. Come ready to take notes

There’s a lot that isn’t seen behind Nopalera, what it took to begin, what wasn’t clear, what didn’t yet exist.
Sandra started without a roadmap, introducing an ingredient most people didn’t recognize and building something that had no defined place.

Less than 0.1% of VC Funding goes to Black & Latina women combined.
The amount of Latinas who have raised a $4M Series A and above is so small there isn’t real data on record. It is likely in the dozens.
Context matters.
I’m sharing the post not for applause, but to remind the community of what is possible.
The internet makes it look like things are easy. That you just go out and ask for money and people give it you. No.
Only founders who have raised understand the brutal, soul sucking, anxiety producing reality of raising capital.
The best advice I have received from a mentor was “never get too high, never get too low. Especially when to comes to raising capital.”
This raise was hard. Harder than I could have imagined. I am tired. But I am even more determined.
Back to work.
We couldn’t let this month for celebrating women pass without showcasing some of the women who make Rancho Diaz an extraordinary shopping destination. Follow along over the coming days to have a glimpse at some of your favorite female founders and artists.
Our extensive line of Nopalera natural body products, featuring fragances to hair care, is the passion project of Nopalera founder Sandra Velasquez. Her website reads, “As a Latina owned brand, Nopalera exists to champion the richness of Mexican heritage, but also the resilience we see within our customer community. We see you as a reflection of our cultured boldness, and a reminder of the strength in natural beauty born from our native land.” Nopalera’s statement is beautifully said and is well received by us here at Rancho Diaz and our beloved customer.
