Earth Day in action 🌍
For First Bus, Earth Day is about turning intent into action in the communities we serve. We’ve worked with partners to plant 1,000 trees in the West of England, to mark the rollout of electric buses across the region.
For every vehicle supplied by Pelican Engineering, 10 trees are planted through Carma, which develops and manages woodland projects while supporting veterans back into work. This creates new green space and provides work for veterans and service leavers. The planting day brought together our colleagues, partners, veterans, the Helen Godwin Mayor of the West of England and our Regional Director for South and West Doug Claringbold.
Working alongside the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority and North Somerset Council, electric buses are being introduced, and depots are being upgraded, with nearly 100 electric buses now in service. This work is already changing the fleet and infrastructure people rely on to help clean up our streets and air, alongside projects that are improving our local countryside and helping wildlife thrive.

Engineering with purpose 👏
This World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, recognised by @unesco , we’re recognising the engineers shaping a more sustainable future.
Andy Knowles is a Master Technician at First Bus, supporting six depots across North and West Yorkshire as they transition to electric vehicles. He began his apprenticeship at 16 and now brings more than 20 years of experience to solving complex technical challenges while mentoring the next generation of engineers.
Electric buses require new systems, stricter safety standards and advanced digital diagnostics, yet the principles behind the work remain consistent. Engineering for Andy means staying curious, solving problems and continuing to learn as technology changes.
Living and working in Yorkshire, he sees the impact cleaner vehicles can have on air quality. He wants to play his part in leaving things better for the next generation, including his own children. For Andy, it is about knowing he is shaping something better for the future.
Read Andy’s story on the First Bus newsroom.

Building future engineers 🚍
At First Bus, we’re proud to continue and grow our support for Scottish Apprenticeship Week, championing the next generation of engineering talent across our business. Investing in young people is not just about building careers. It’s about strengthening the future of sustainable transport in the communities we serve.
In total, we’re supporting 24 engineering apprentices across our sites in Glasgow and Aberdeen in Scotland, with training delivered through our key partner, GTG (@gtgtrainingltd ). Together, we’re equipping apprentices with hands-on skills, technical expertise and the confidence they need to thrive in a modern, evolving engineering environment.
September 2025 marked our biggest intake yet, with 12 new apprentices joining the programme. This milestone reflects our long-term commitment to developing talent and creating meaningful career pathways. We’re excited to watch this group grow, learn and help drive innovation across our fleet for years to come.
Davide shares his experience of joining our First Bus apprenticeships to develop practical skills and learn from experienced professionals. Studying at GTG Glasgow, he is gaining the knowledge and experience needed to step confidently into the workplace.
Our apprenticeships are open to everyone. Whether you’re finishing school or looking for a new direction, this could be your next step. Apprenticeships open the door to hands-on experience and real career opportunities in an industry that keeps moving the everyday.
If you’re interested in learning more about apprenticeship opportunities at First Bus, register your interest now on our website.

Apprenticeships now open 👏
At First Bus, National Apprenticeship Week is about people starting out in their careers and discovering where public transport can take them.
We believe apprenticeships give people the chance to learn by being part of how things really work. It’s about seeing how a network runs, how people depend on it, and how your work plays a part in keeping places moving. It’s a way to learn while doing, with time to ask questions and space to build confidence.
Right now, we have 238 First Bus apprentices across engineering and bus driver roles learning in depots and training centres across the UK and Ireland. They’re working with experienced teams, building skills through real work and growing in confidence as they go, supported by people who take the time to share what they know.
Bus transport is moving forward. New vehicles, new technology and new ways of working mean there’s always something new to learn. For apprentices, that brings recognised qualifications, steady experience, and a clear route into long term work in an industry people rely on every day.
If you’re thinking about what comes next, or know someone who might be, an apprenticeship at First Bus could be a good place to start. Register your interest on the First Bus Careers website and see where an apprenticeship could take you.
Tag someone who would be great for this.

Marking Remembrance together 🤝
To mark Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day, First Bus is offering free bus travel to serving troops, veterans and cadets on Sunday 9 and Tuesday 11 November. (See T&Cs)
It’s a small gesture to show our appreciation for the Armed Forces community and to help people reach services, parades and commemorations across the country.
Tony Curtain from Sheffield reminds us what remembrance is truly about. For more than 20 years, Tony has been collecting for the Royal British Legion (@royalbritishlegion ), often travelling with First Bus to reach local collections. He stands all day to raise money, inspired by memories of seeing wounded soldiers return home during World War Two.
As we mark this period of remembrance, we’re proud to help people like Tony, and many others, come together to pay their respects.
Please note: Terms & conditions apply. Free travel is not available on certain special event or Airport services. Find more details on our website. Link in bio.

Haven’t seen it yet? 👀
We’re spreading the news, inspiring the nation to love and use the bus.
That’s a wrap from First Bus at Labour Conference, led by our Public Affairs team, speaking to people about why buses matter in society. This is just one stop in our party conference season.
As part of backing new creative talent we asked Morgan Hastie (@thelogolassie ) to design ‘Our Vision’ whitepaper to show how buses cut down congestion. It was printed on recycled paper with Newspaper Club (@newspaperclub ), keeping it thoughtful from start to finish.
Thanks to our team for being such good sports for our socials, you know who you are. 😉
You can now read the full whitepaper on our website.

Anneka on tour with First Bus 🚌
We’ve teamed up with TV legend Anneka Rice to launch Life Begins at Bus Pass, giving a nod to her classic ‘Challenge Anneka’ days.
This time, the challenge is simple. Encourage the over-60s to grab their best mate, their bus pass and head out on an everyday adventure.
Anneka’s been out across the UK meeting people who are using their bus pass to make more of the day. A catch-up that turns into a day out. A trip to town that leads somewhere new.
This is what moving the everyday looks like. Small moments that turn into something more.

Life begins at bus pass 🙌
Free travel with a bus pass can mean more than getting from A to B. It’s easier than ever to get out and about with First Bus.
A catch-up that turns into something more. A day out that starts with a good idea. If you or someone you know is eligible for an older person’s bus pass, it’s a chance to make time for the things that matter.
It’s about moving the everyday. Doing more of what you enjoy, whenever it suits you.
