3607 Baine A small shift in pattern can change everything. In this South Memphis neighborhood, many of the homes are minimal traditional houses from the 1960s — simple forms with brick and lap siding. Working with @officeofbasicarchitecture , we kept that familiar palette but introduced a subtle twist: stack bond brick instead of the typical running bond. @acmebrick Garnet brick Argos red mortar Installed by Fonseca Masonry. The result is a clean, contemporary accent that adds warmth and texture while still feeling right at home on the block. A sukkah is traditionally a temporary, open-sided shelter built for the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. It is a symbol of the Israelites’ temporary dwellings during their 40 years in the wilderness after the Exodus from Egypt. While providing enclosure and shade, a Sukkah is not allowed to block ones connection with the sky. This recently completed Sukkah replacement in East Memphis combines a new steel frame and layered composite boards over existing columns. The consistent stacked and notched boards create a deep web of shadows while still allowing views of the sky. The Sukkah was designed with durability in mind, and we hope this family enjoys Sukkot here for years to come. Swipe for previously existing photo. #ooba #sukkah

We are sad that tonight is The Public Bistro’s last night, but are excited to celebrate what Kate Ashby brought to Memphis along with Knifebird. Over the past two years we loved working with her team and spending time with the fantastic staff at The Public Bistro. Best of luck to Kate and Kyle on their next chapter. We are certain it will be full of delicious food, drinks, and good times. Come out tonight and support The Public one more time!

We are stoked to share our recent collaboration with @itsmemphisc @victorybicyclestudio on their new bicycle hub and event space @purlieuclub ! For this project the team drew inspiration from the definition of purlieu: a tract on the border of a forest especially one earlier included in it and still partly subjected to forest laws. The existing building was both paired down and expanded upon with a new front porch. The simple paint scheme nods to tent like structures with the corner lifted for an entry point. New speculative contextual infill housing in collaboration with @riverhaus.build on the books! With this residential single-family design, the team sought a contemporary home highly compatible with the historic streetscape of traditional bungalows in the Beltline neighborhood. The building aligns with its neighbors in terms of massing, porch, and materiality of siding and masonry. The interior recontextualizes a zoned four-square plan with unexpected vaulted ceilings and a courtyard deep within the footprint. #ooba #memphis #housing #architecture

We are excited to share our first collaboration with @hopscotchconstruction on the Hopscotch Single Family 01. This project showcases modern, contextual design with affordability and health at the forefront. On a residential street in south-east Memphis, the floor plan was designed to fit an existing slab where a 1950’s home was previously demolished. Our team in memphis partnered with the @healthymaterialslab at the Parsons School of Design to help select materials that are readily available, sustainable, and healthy. We hope this effort will elevate future development in memphis. Thanks to everyone involved! #ooba #memphis #architecture #healthymaterials #sustainability
