375_Rasters
Rasters modular furniture designed by OFFICE in collaboration with @mullervanseveren , and produced by @bdbarcelonadesign , was presented during Milan Design Week. Originally conceived for Bottega Veneta’s HQ, the project translates structural grid systems into a family of cabinets and paravents that organise and divide space without enclosing it.

283_Housing Complex (Slachthuissite)
Antwerp’s Den Dam regeneration includes OFFICE’s conversion of a former slaughterhouse into a university campus and a nearby housing block by three firms; OFFICE designed the two corner buildings. Both L-shaped buildings reference the industrial context with corrugated aluminium pitched roofs, flat green roofs on the short sides, exposed concrete slabs, and continuous bands of floor-to-ceiling folding glass behind metal railings. Dark-green frames have aluminium or plaster infills; a grid of galvanised gutters reads as slender facade columns. Large gateways open the street to a central green courtyard, with apartment entrances on outdoor galleries. A single modular plan yields one- to three-bedroom units; ground-floor street-fronts are commercial, while common amenities face the courtyard.

62_City Villa
The project underlines the existence of everything there already was, to celebrate the status quo and to simultaneously make the addition disappear by making it extremely visible, making it, in a sense, the protagonist. The new addition is projected under the existing house, not adding any new volume, but effectively creating its pedestal. The pedestal turns the existing house into an exhibited object: maintained, cleaned and restored—undone of its original importance. The existing house becomes a night house, a ghost house on top of a new, excavated villa. The villa is simultaneously new and old. It is a house designed as a set of different spaces traced by columns. The column rhythm defines plan and sequence: a set of spaces which are not functionally defined. The villa presents itself as a remnant of a house; a set of tectonic elements crating different spatial hierarchies. Sometimes the spaces are open to the sky; sometimes they get their light indirectly. The structure is made of massive concrete beams and columns, measured with maximal tectonic effect. The structure is translated into a spatial idea. Concrete columns become stained wooden columns as soon as one crosses from inside to outside, effectively creating a spatial construct, a spatial sequence of hypothetical places to stay.

334_Office building (Montoyer)
The transformation of a mid-’90s office building involved major works to meet contemporary standards of office space and to better integrate the building into its urban environment. The office block, situated on a corner plot on Rue Montoyer in Brussels’ European Quarter, was stripped down to its concrete structural frame. Two recessed floors were added to the nine-storey building, forming a compact figure with a truncated roofline. As the existing floor height was too low to integrate the ventilation system, the ducts were installed on the facade. A network of pipes is concealed by a grid pattern of aluminium profiles that uniformly covers the building, giving it a distinct visual appearance. This cladding enables the easy maintenance and future replacement of the utilities it encloses. The new facade allows for larger window openings and more natural light. Inside, the office spaces are arranged around the existing cores, and combine open floor plans with enclosed meeting rooms. On the ground floor, a double-height foyer forms a transparent and permeable street-level frontage, offering a glimpse of the enclosed garden to the rear. 268_Model for a Tower
To commemorate the 450th anniversary of the death of Pieter Bruegel the Elder, the municipality of Dilbeek organised an open-air exhibition, Bruegel’s Eye: Reconstructing the Landscape. OFFICE’s contribution, developed in collaboration with Bas Princen, was a ‘Model for a Tower’ installed in the forest environment frequently depicted in the artist’s paintings. The circular aluminium pavilion forms a railing for curtains printed with Princen’s photographs of fragments of Bruegel’s Tower of Babel. The curtains move with the slightest breath of wind and the juxtaposition of the two – the images and the forest – takes the viewer into a space where painting blurs into reality. Just as Bruegel depicts the ambiguity of our notions of nature and artificiality, with tree leaves visually mutating into red bricks, the pavilion aims for the same, as a scale model of a painted tower. photo: #basprincen #office #officekerstengeersdavidvanseveren #officekgdvs

176_Media House (RTS)
We are pleased to announce the official opening of the @radiotelevisionsuisse headquarters yesterday. Located on the EPFL and UNIL campus next to Lake Geneva, the building combines a broadcasting center, public venue, and research facilities. It features four rectangular boxes supporting a flexible, suspended office slab, with a glazed foyer housing the main entrance, staircase, and separation of public and technical areas. Each box is dedicated to studios, technical and educational facilities, or offices. The open-plan slab, lit by a shed roof and Warren trusses, creates a dynamic, campus-like environment that fosters adaptability. Developed in collaboration with Fehlmann Architectes, it won an international competition in 2015. #officekerstengeersdavidvanseveren #officekgdvs #office #rts
