Offcut Caps were one of the first brands in Aotearoa to really catch my eye.
They take fabric offcuts and other textiles destined for landfill and turn them into limited-run hats.
Simple. Logical. Necessary. And so so cool!!
In New Zealand alone, textile waste is estimated to be the equivalent of every single person throwing away around 150 t-shirts each year, according to Offcut. That’s the scale of the problem and exactly what they’re combatting.
I’ve always admired their clarity of purpose, and they’re proving that what we call ‘waste’ is more than often just material waiting for new intentions.
And to help offset manufacturing emissions, they plant a tree for every cap sold through Eden Reforestation Projects.
Small product. Big statement.
Circularity doesn’t have to be complicated. It can simply be using what’s already here.
High five!

“We want to put ourselves out of business.”
That’s the goal driving @offcut team member @jrmw26 , to design waste out of the system entirely. A finalist in last year’s Circular Business Innovation Award, Offcut is reshaping how fashion and business approach surplus materials.
From textile scraps to corporate collaborations, their work proves that circular thinking can scale. In one standout project, they partnered with Aperol Spritz to repurpose old branded umbrellas from bars and cafés into limited-run caps, gifting the results back as meaningful, made-from-waste Christmas presents.
Watch Jeff share how Offcut is using design, business, and collaboration to push towards a future with less waste, and why their endgame is to eliminate the need for what they do entirely
