🌊 Our Biggest Event of the Year is coming up on June 7th! Join us on June 7th for our annual Ocean Celebration, the flagship event of Ocean Week Halifax (May 30–June 8). We are taking over the waterfront for a day dedicated to the blue planet we call home! This is a free, family-friendly festival for all ages. Oceans & You! Friday, June 5 @ns_mma 9:30 am - 3 pm FREE community day celebrating World Oceans Day! X-Oceans Outreach, St. Francis Xavier University, will be here to celebrate #Oceans&You2026 @stfxbiology X-Oceans Outreach is a mobile education program that provides hands-on activities to promote ocean literacy in rural communities across Nova Scotia. Our goal is to enhance understanding of marine biodiversity, preservation and ocean stewardship, and to grades K-12 through STEM and experiential learning offered in both English and French. Kickoff Ocean Week at Africville: Community Event and Shoreline Cleanup! Dive into the start of Ocean Week Halifax with a day of community, conservation, and hands-on discovery! We are gathering at the historic Africville shores to celebrate our connection to the coast and take action for a healthier harbour. Whether you’re looking to get your hands dirty for the environment or want to explore the microscopic world beneath the waves, there is something for every ocean lover. Event Details: * Date: Saturday, May 30th * Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (Meet at 10am for Dive Briefing) * Location: Africville Museum and Marina Planned Activities: * Shoreline Cleanup & Dive Against Debris: Help us protect our local waters! We’re hosting a massive cleanup effort on land and sub-surface. Divers will be heading into the marina for a debris recovery mission, while shoreline volunteers work to keep the coast pristine. Saturday May 30 Club dive @torpedorays * Critter Dipping & Micro-Exploration: Ever wonder what’s living in the harbour? Use our nets and microscopes to get a close-up look at the tiny but mighty creatures that call these waters home * Giant Ocean Floor Map: Walk across the country’s underwater landscape! This massive floor map allows you to explore the mountains, valleys, and hidden depths of Canada’s three oceans * Mermaid Dress-Up Station: Channel your inner sea spirit! Perfect for kids and the young at heart, stop by our station to transform into a mythical ocean dweller. With Alanna, PADI Mermaid Instructor Trainer @alannacan * Community Booths: Visit with local partners to learn more about marine science and stewardship What to bring: Please wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. If you are participating in the shoreline cleanup, gloves and bags will be provided. Mermaid Meetup | Ocean Week Halifax Open to all Merfolk! Whether you are a seasoned pro or new to mermaiding, come down to the shore to splash, socialize, and celebrate the ocean. This is a beach based event, with the option to get in the water. Cost: Free! What to bring: Your own tail and gear, and things to enjoy a beach day New to mermaiding? If you don’t have a tail yet, come by anyway! I will have a couple of extra tails available for people to try on and experience the magic for themselves Want to swim? You are welcome to swim should you have the experience to get in the water and use your tail. I will be available for safety. Please note the water temperature will only be around 10 degrees Celcius, so it is your responsibility to stay warm and wear the proper exposure suits. Please register, so we know you’re coming.
