Meet Mark Haver, one of the people fighting every day to make sure the ocean finally gets the global attention it deserves!
At COP30, Mark helped carry the message that ocean action = climate action.
He was there to make sure the ocean wasn’t an afterthought and that world leaders heard what so many communities have been saying for years.
And now, Mark is working with others to build global pressure against deep sea mining. It is the same kind of organising that helped push Canada to ban it just one week after public action. Real people, real pressure, real wins for the ocean.
If you want to help protect the ocean, you can support mark on chilli by taking action with him or making a contribution so that he can stay focused on the work instead of chasing grants.

At COP30, we have been on a mission to place the ocean front and center with #CommitToOcean. We do it for the corals and on behalf of the 3 billion people on our planet who depend on a healthy ocean for their livelihoods. 🪸🎣
This is a rallying cry for everyone to get involved, and we are making it easier than ever to take action. Check out my advocacy kit in my bio so we can advance bold ocean-climate action ⚡️❤️🔥

In college, I had always dreamed of mobilizing grassroots support for ocean advocacy, but I had always faced so many obstacles, or at least that's what people told me. Not enough people cared about the ocean anyway, people wouldn't mobilize for the ocean in the same way they would for climate, and a protest would be too small. Two weeks ago, we got 200 young and indigenous people out in the streets on a cold and rainy day in Vancouver about an ocean issue as "niche" as deep-sea mining. We captured the attention of national and global media, while @look_down_action@theoxygenproj@ansroux@graine_de_possible@underwaterbaguette@soalliance@vasserseydel@oceans_north@nicole.zanesco@charlie.mz mobilized thousands of people online to support our campaign. Now, people are giving the ocean the love and respect it deserves, and the waves of positive change for ocean health are building. This celebration is for all of us, for it is a signal of the potential we have unlocked and will continue to unlock for ocean optimism. Keep up the focused slayage ❤️ also enjoy my Vancouver photo dump w some incredible people 💚🌊 #deepseamining #defendthedeep #ocean #activism #tmcsucks #lookdown #climateaction
Pc: to the incredible and talented @jpowerphotography !!! Everyone give him and his great work a follow 👏👏
It’s time for a change. Iceland: stop whaling. Here’s how you can help 👇
Iceland has already set a quote for the slaughter of 150 endangered fin whales this whaling season, but we have the opportunity to stop whaling for good. 🐋⛏️
The Iceland Parliament is looking to pass a law later this year that would stop whaling, forever. But this year’s whales are still on the chopping block. 🏛️😵🪦
Send emails through @chilli in my link in bio to the US-Iceland Embassies to let them know that we oppose whaling and we will boycott visiting until they stop. 🇺🇸🇮🇸
Our whale friends are counting on youuuuu 🐳🐋🐳
This needs to end in 2026 and more people must know about this 👊🏽 🐟
Forced labor at sea is tied to IUU fishing, and our seafood could be unknowingly connected to it. But there ARE solutions available now, whether it be traceability standards, funding for programs, access to internet for workers, and so much more.
Thank you to the fishers who shared their stories, the coalition that organized the gathering, and the lawmakers that joined to learn more.
We need more of us talking about IUU fishing 🎣
That’s why @futureswell and @oceanswarrior joined a legislative briefing yesterday in DC with the IUU and Labor Rights Coalition to help educate decision makers on the issue, and the ways forward.
Because their stories matter.
Fishers like Resi, Rizky, and Adrian came all the way from Indonesia to share their lived experiences in the sector – exposing conditions we cannot begin to comprehend.
The ocean MUST be a safe place to make a living. Share and amplify so others can learn, too.

Why do you show up to defend the ocean? ✊🏽 🌊
Today is Deep Day and we are celebrating the strength of global unity to protect the deep sea.
Advocates, scientists, policy makers, indigenous communities, and ocean users are coming together to say NO to harmful activities such as deep sea mining, bottom trawling, and offshore drilling.
Will you join us?
CREATOR LAB MENTORS 📣
Over 8 weeks, these mentors will be part of course leadership to train students on their area expertise – each hosting a weekly seminar on their issue area.
@futureswell is accepting applications until May 15th – submit yours at the 🔗 in bio.
We are looking for EXISTING ocean content creators and/or conservation practitioners looking to scale their ocean impact through ADVOCACY, campaigning, and large-scale policy.

Closing a historic week: The Santa Marta conference sets the stage for a Fossil-Free future 🌎 ✨!
This week, history was made in Santa Marta, Colombia 🇨🇴. The Fossil Fuel Treaty Conference brought together global stakeholders, governments, NGOs, Indigenous peoples, local voices to tackle the root cause of climate change: fossil fuels. The outcome? A major step towards a binding global treaty to phase out coal, oil, & gas.
ARTPORT's Advisory Board member, ocean youth activist Mark Haver, who was proudly on the ground, joined key events such as the protest march & demonstration, witnessing impactful speeches & discussions on how to bring about a just, global transition away from fossil fuels.
Key breakthroughs:
• The Santa Marta 🇨🇴 conference has kick-started the Fossil Fuel Treaty creation process, with Tuvalu 🇹🇻 & Ireland 🇮🇪 set to co-host a 2nd conference, set in the Pacific Ocean in 2027.
• Renewed focus on developing existing solutions, confronting financial & trade barriers, & strengthening international cooperation.
• Recognizing the need for a unified, multilateral & just approach to address the climate crisis.
Key events & moments:
• Cumbre de Pueblos (People’s Summit) brought together local leaders, Indigenous & youth groups to stop fracking.
• Fossil Fuel Treaty progress celebrations by the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative, to connect, highlight cultural expression & celebrate progress made.
• Protest to block Santa Marta’s port, & march through the city, highlighting the urgent need for change.
What's next:
• 2nd conference in Tuvalu, 2027, to build momentum & drive bold climate action.
• Creation & finalization of a global treaty to bring accountability & enforce a fossil-free future.
ARTPORT is proud to support these critical efforts in our own capacity: by continuing to educate on the effects & extreme risks of climate change, raising awareness for the essential need for ocean protection, and inspiring agency in our youth that we need to divest from "business as normal" & find sustainable solutions.
📣 Let's stay tuned for future updates & keep pushing for real change! #sustainablefuture #climatejustice
Offshore oil and gas is turning up the heat in Santa Marta (no seriously, it’s hot out here!) ☀️🥵
Offshore is the missing piece of the fossil fuel transition. And without it the transition is incomplete. We cannot let oil and gas companies try to be sneaky and try to move their activities out of sight and into our ocean! ❌🛢️➡️🌊
We must continue the call for climate justice, with frontline communities at the core! We will be sharing more info soon as to how we can all fight offshore expansion! ✊🌎🌍🌏

The climate conversation just got real at the heart of the world 🇨🇴 Earth defenders, governments, academics and activists are in Santa Marta, Colombia this week for the First International Conference on the Just Transition Away from Fossil Fuels. Follow along for updates from the ground. 🔥⬇️
Now we know from baseline scientific reports that the water is highly alkaline with a pH of ~13. But we need to get to the bottom of what is responsible for this toxic conditions and what’s causing major ocean and human health issues.
To resolve this situation, we need to raise awareness, keep the pressure on the government, and provide emergency support (funding) to the communities affected.
