20 Years of Alix at 200 Lex!
Alix’s dedication, passion, and impact over the years have left a lasting mark on everyone lucky enough to work with her. Last week, we had the joy of surprising her with a well-deserved celebration to honor this amazing achievement.
Cheers to you, Alix, and to all the years and memories that brought you here!
For a century, the New York Design Center at 200 Lex has stood as the beating heart—and consumer-forward marketplace—of American design.
Born from the country’s first furniture exchange, the architectural landmark remains the place you come to find the best merchants, source and buy luxury furnishings, and transact with confidence.
Here, history meets innovation, and the art of good design is both celebrated and sold.

Legacy. Modernity. Craft. Conversation.
At the crossroads of past and future, The New York Design Center fosters an enduring dialogue within the design world. One that is intentionally set at the confluence of heritage and innovation, where ideas are made tangible and craftsmanship remains at the core.
The New York Design Center is a living institution, evolving with the makers, designers, and thinkers who define its walls. A place where tradition informs the future, where inspiration meets community, and where each generation rediscovers the beauty, discipline, and purpose of good design.
Creation by @_thebeauxarts_
It began in 1891, when America’s furniture buyers had no central market. Merchants would travel for weeks through upstate New York, Pennsylvania, and Michigan in search of goods. A small group of manufacturers (visionaries, really) banded together to change that. They opened a loft near Lexington Avenue and, in doing so, created the first national furniture market.
By 1926, their idea had evolved into something monumental: The New York Furniture Exchange. The building that would one day become The New York Design Center rose as a new kind of institution, revealing a permanent home for design in New York City. Through decades of change—from postwar prosperity to modern reinvention—the affectionately referred to 200 Lex has remained the steadfast hub of America’s design conversation.
When others moved on, we doubled down, transforming from a furniture exchange into a community for the design trades, where legacy manufacturers and new makers sit side by side, united by a shared devotion to quality. Today, the New York Design Center continues to thrive as both marketplace and meeting ground, a true cultural cornerstone where ideas take shape, collaborations form, and the value of design is constantly redefined.
