We’ve got some new residents at the garden—of the fluffy and feathery variety! šŸ¦‰ After much waiting and watching by our staff, a pair of Great-Horned Owls successfully raised a nest of three rowdy owlets, who recently fledged to join their parents on their return to the deeper parts of the Thain Forest. We can’t wait to see what the rest of spring brings for our bird community! Photos: @marlonco.photography and Patricia Gonzalez

"Cocoa is often grown under conditions where [it is] not environmentally sustainable. So if you want to really look at long-term value, for the cocoa industry to survive, then we need to look at sustainability as a whole." On this week’s episode of #PlantPeople, host Jennifer Bernstein, CEO and President of NYBG, sits down with Professor Pathmanathan Umaharan, Director of the Cocoa Research Centre at the University of the West Indies. Together they explore the ancient history of cacao tree cultivation, and how today, these crops face new threats in climate change and plant diseases, creating serious challenges for the future of this important and delicious food.
