Members of our Special Operations team, based out of Station 338, have been putting in the work! From crane operations to regional technical rescue training and hands-on rope instruction for our newest recruits, this is what readiness looks like. Different skills. Today we’re flashing back to a recent station tour! Moments like this give us the chance to share an important message: firefighters are friends! In an emergency, we don’t want any child to be afraid of the people there to help, even if they look a little different in all the gear. Sometimes, a quick visit is all it takes to turn fear into familiarity. #FlashbackFriday because moments like this are just too good to miss!

HIKER SAFETY REMINDER! Your safety is our top priority, especially during extreme heat in Southern Arizona. What can start as a simple hike can quickly become a life-threatening emergency. Hiker rescues are rarely simple. They often require multiple crews, extended time on scene, and operations in difficult terrain. These calls also place our responders in extreme conditions as they work to reach and care for patients. We will always respond when you need us, but many of these situations are preventable. Please reconsider hiking during extreme heat. If you do go out, plan ahead, know your limits, and be prepared. #HikerSafety #EmergencyResponse #NWFDAZ

It’s not exactly your standard bike safety message… but Recruit Spencer has an important reminder to share: Helmets matter! Whether you’re on a bike or hanging upside down in training, protecting your head is non-negotiable. Always wear a helmet. Follow the 2 V 1 rule for a proper fit: 🚲 2 fingers above your eyebrows 🚲 Straps form a V under each ear 🚲 1 finger under the chin strap We’ll handle the ropes. You handle the ride! Another quick safety note: If your bike is electric, charge lithium-ion batteries safely. Fire departments across the U.S. have seen an increase in fires linked to damaged or improperly charged batteries. ⚡️ Follow manufacturer instructions ⚡️ Charge on a hard, stable surface away from exits ⚡️ Do not charge unattended or overnight ⚡️ Stop using the battery if it’s damaged, swollen, or overheating #HelmetSafety #BicycleSafetyMonth #FirePrevention #SpidermanSpencer #NWFDAZ (Sources: SafeKids, NFPA)

Even fire engines need backup sometimes! When one of our trucks needed service out in the community, our Fleet Division didn’t skip a beat. They responded and got it handled quickly so crews could get back to what matters most. It’s not always the side people see, but it’s a critical part of emergency response. Thank you for everything you do for us and our community, Fleet! #BehindTheScenes #FleetDivision #NWFDAZ

In recognition of National Hospital Week, we want to thank the healthcare professionals who continue care long after we leave the scene. We’re proud to work alongside you in service to our community. Fun fact! This week is timed to include May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, widely recognized as the founder of modern nursing. From nursing to emergency care, technicians to surgeons, every role plays a vital part in the care our patients receive. Thank you to everyone who serves in the healthcare setting. #HospitalWeek #ThankYou #NWFDAZ @banner_health @tmchealthaz @nwhealthcareaz @carondelethealth

Last week, Marana Police Department brought donuts to Station 334 for International Firefighters’ Day. This week, we’re returning the favor with a box of our own for National Police Week! 🍩🚓 To our incredible partners at Marana Police Department, Pima County Sheriff’s Department, Oro Valley Police Department, Tucson Police Department, and Arizona Department of Public Safety, thank you for everything you do to serve our community and support our crews every day. We appreciate you and wish you a safe and happy Police Week! P.S. We know you’d never speed… but you might want to get to Marana before the donuts disappear! 👀🍩 #NationalPoliceWeek #ThankYou #PublicSafetyPartners @maranapoliceaz @pimasheriff @orovalleypd @thetucsonpolicedepartment @azdps

Distractions happen fast. Drowning can happen faster. Help prevent drownings with constant, active supervision. Designate a Water Watcher. Someone fully present, undistracted, and within arm’s reach at all times. — Assigning a Water Watcher is a key part of the ABCs of Water Safety: 👀 Adult Supervision Active, undistracted, and within arm’s reach at all times. Avoid phone use, alcohol, or anything that pulls your attention away. 🚧 Barriers Use layers of protection like four-sided pool fencing with self-closing, self-latching gates and door alarms to prevent unsupervised access. 🏊‍♂️ Classes Swim lessons for children and CPR training for adults. A few recent moments from our Fire Academy! Check it out: 🔥Recruit Class 26-01 successfully completed their Arizona State Testing! Recruits must pass both the AzCFSE Written Exam and AzCFSE Practical Skills Evaluations. 🚒 Recruits had the opportunity to hear from retired FDNY firefighter and Marana PD officer Danny Rowan speak about service. 🧗 Technical Rescue-Rope Operation training is underway, and recruits are learning the ropes... literally! #FireAcademy #NWFDAZ
