We’re proud to be part of Backyard Biennial: East, a free, 8-week festival in collaboration with @whitechapelgallery and 40+ local partners across East London (15 July - 6 September 2026). Join us for an exciting programme of exhibitions, performances, workshops and more, celebrating the histories, communities and creative practices that shape the East End. We are collaborating with East London Art Prize shortlisted artists Laisul Hoque @laisulhoque , Kuda Mushangi @kuda.mushangi and Lydia Newman @ladedum for exciting events including exhibitions, workshops, performances and walking tours! As part of the ‘East of the Aldgate Pump’ exhibition, Laisul will present ‘An Ode to All the Flavours’ (2024), an expanded storytelling and interactive installation inspired by his earliest memory of his father sharing his favourite childhood snack. On Sat 25 & Sun 26 July, Lydia will host two participatory workshops 'Tangle/Untangle' (2026) in collaboration with Jae Gibbs @our_living_tree as space-holder, using sand-filled tights as a shared material to create collective entanglement and explore how bodies carry, share and negotiate inherited and socially learned pressures. On Thurs 13 August, as part of Whitechapel Lates, Lydia will present ‘Sand Suit 4.0’ (2026), an embodied storytelling performance developed in dialogue with the workshops and her ongoing series ‘In the Wake of Ruin’. On Sat 15 August, Kuda will lead a walking tour of the Whitechapel area to explore how art has been integrated and woven into the history and architecture of Whitechapel and East London. Key sites will include House of Annetta, Whitechapel Gallery and Arnold Circus. These events are curated by Sandra Lam @lamwanyisandra in collaboration with the Whitechapel Gallery team. In a time where prize culture focuses too much on the initial win with no to little follow through, we want to showcase how the East London Art Prize works differently, so we asked Exhibition Prize winner of the most recent cycle (2024-2026) @laisulhoque 'What's an element of the East London Art Prize you really valued?' He says "The mentorship fund that accompanied the Prize connected me with established practitioners, writers and thinkers whose work I greatly admire." Only 3 days until the open call goes live... #artprize #eastlondonartists #creativedevelopment

🌍 Shouldn't Earth day be everyday? On one of the many days we appreciate the Earth, we'd like to spotlight #EastLondonArtPrize artist @molangmuir Mo Langmuir is a multi-disciplinary practitioner using social art to explore being human on a shared planet. Informed by a background in environmental biology, her practice responds to the so-called Enlightenment, a time when Western thinking separated humans from nature, art from science and the body from the mind. Last October Mo ran a workshop @vam_east in partnership with @bowarts for young people to reflect on climate change using archival material from the V&A archive, as well as our own environmental nostalgia. We created cyanotype collages to convey these reflections which Mo then integrated into a parachute for her project Mapping Interconnectedness (2024)🌊. As well as being a runner-up for #ELAP in this last cycle, Mo has has won support from Akademie Schloss Solitude, Arts Council England, Climate Art, DEFRA, Makerversity, Near Now, University of Nottingham and The Institute for Art and Innovation, + a long list of collaborative work. 📸 Deacon Lui, @lsb.co #YouthWorkshop #EarthDay #ClimateCrisis #ClimateArt
