CAPE TOWN ART FAIR 📍 @investeccapetownartfair with @thisisnotawhitecube 20 - 22 Feb 2026 Booth 9 *** CONSTELLATIONS OF LISTENING Inspired by the concept of listening, this curatorial project unfolds as a constellation of voices that explore how contemporary art can expand the very notion of listening beyond sound. Listening, here, is not passive: it is an active, embodied, and ethical gesture — a practice of attention that renders audible what is often disregarded, giving form to silences, resonances, and hidden memories. The selection of artists — Ana Malta (Portugal, 1996), Barbara Wildenboer (South Africa, 1973), Cássio Markowski (Brazil, 1972), Ibrahim Bemba Kébé (Mali, 1996), Osvaldo Ferreira (Angola, 1980) and Sanjo Lawal (Nigeria, 1997) — establishes a transcontinental dialogue where tradition, identity, and experimentation converge. Each, from their symbolic and cultural territory, presents works that, more than being seen, demand to be listened to with attentiveness and presence. Ana Malta explores chromatic compositions that reverberate as visual rhythms, capturing the flows and cadences of the everyday. (..) This project is not confined to the presentation of works. It configures a space of expanded listening, where seeing and hearing intertwine. It resists the immediacy of answers, proposing instead pauses, intervals, and echoes that open up space for reflection. In so doing, it creates the conditions for an active engagement with art and with narratives that only emerge when one truly, deeply, chooses to listen. Special thanks to @sonia.vieira.ribeiro @graca.m.rodrigues and Sofia! #capetown #investeccapetownartfair #painting #artfair #thisisnotawhitecube

Where do your ideas live before you make them? “My ideas exist before I make them, but not in a fixed or visible form. They are latent, scattered, and difficult to access. My process is intuitive and does not rely on planning. Instead, it unfolds through a continuous act of searching.

I often spend long periods facing a blank canvas, trying to locate something that feels already present, even if it has not yet materialized. The work emerges through this tension between absence and recognition. When a piece is finished, I frequently experience a sense of déjà vu, as if I am encountering something familiar rather than creating something new. It feels as though the colors, forms, and composition were already there, waiting to be revealed.

This process can feel like a mental labyrinth. What appears to be an artistic block is not an absence of ideas, but a difficulty in accessing them. The challenge lies in navigating this internal space until a moment of clarity occurs. When it does, the elements align and the work becomes coherent.

In this sense, ideas do not originate in a specific place. They exist in a non-linear, undefined mental space, without time or orientation. They emerge through the act of making, resolving themselves into form and meaning as the work unfolds.” — Ana Malta, Lisbon, Portugal @num.para @artistsoncouches Photo credit: @miguelmaarujo #anamalta #artistsoncouches #onthecouch #artistarchive #creativeconsciousness

Honoured to be one of the artists included in the new contemporary works acquired for the collection of the Museum of the Presidency of the Portuguese Republic @museupr @presidenciagov_pt . This initiative, developed in partnership with Vhils and the Presidency, brings contemporary voices into this historic space, with the works to be installed in the Council of State Room at the Presidential Palace. I’m deeply grateful to @vhils for the invitation and for making this initiative possible. Special thanks as well to Carla Cardoso for all the support throughout the process.

10k💥 It’s great to see so many people following my work and keeping up with the paintings I create every day. To say thank you, I’m giving away one print produced and created by me and Atelier de Imagem ( @manuelfranciscosousa ). It is a digigraphie, a high-quality giclée print that preserves the details, colors, and textures of the original artwork. Each print comes with a certificate registered in a secure database, confirming its authenticity and edition. I will personally add a unique intervention to it, making it one of a kind. To enter, leave a comment below. I will randomly select one person from the comments. The winner will be announced next Sunday, March 1. Thanks for following!

“Lisboa inspira-me a criar por causa de algo muito português e muito tradicional que são os azulejos.Sou a Ana Malta, sou artista visual lisboeta. Lisboa inspira-me muito a criar. Ao mesmo tempo, como também viajo, começo a misturar todo o tipo de padrões e culturas, de todos os sítios onde já estive, mas há sempre uma pista qualquer que nos leva à minha nacionalidade, à minha cidade.” #Lisboa #Lisboetas

O exercício de reter, 2025 50x70cm From the “Voice Studies” series, presented at @feriaarco 2025 with @thisisnotawhitecube . I use these drawings to examine imperfections and reinterpret them visually, creating a point of connection with the viewer. “The Struggle to Retain” explores the artist’s desire to expand her mental space in order to absorb more knowledge. The work reflects the frustration of memory functioning selectively, not always fully accessible. It questions the power of the mind and the limited control we have over our bodies. #drawing #paper #arcolisboa # drypastel

Only today and tomorrow left to visit my solo exhibition “IMPERMANENTIA” at @thisisnotawhitecube in Chiado, Lisbon. 📍 Until Jan 24 2.30 - 7pm Rua da Emenda 72, Lisbon “Her compositions emerge from primordial stains, seemingly arbitrary, which serve as the structural matrix of the creative process — a territory of indeterminacy where form gradually reveals itself. From this foundation, Malta establishes an inner order that organises visual and emotional chaos, transforming the spontaneity of gesture and the fluidity of memory into records of ephemeral experiences. The result is an emotional cartography in perpetual construction, where chance, colour, and the reiteration of gesture sustain a dialogue between control and freedom, intuition and consciousness.” — @graca.m.rodrigues Ph: @aazevedo #artexhibition #painting #canvas #portugal #contemporaryart

WINNER OF THE PUBLIC VOTE PRIZE @sovereignportugueseartprize @sovereignartfoundation I am deeply grateful to everyone who voted and visited the exhibition. This work emerged from the pressure to remain passive in the face of everyday adversity. Seeing how strongly people connected with it reminds me that I am not alone in resisting neutrality - as Rupi Kaur writes, ‘the irony of loneliness is we all feel it at the same time’. Through this public vote, chaos and frustration become pictorial tools, allowing for a few more moments of madness. 📷 SPAF courtesy, 2025 #sovereignportugueseartprize #sovereignartfoundation #publicvoteprizewinner #snba #painting
