In the language of menswear design, where tailoring constructs the architectural skeleton and fabric composes the tactile skin, the pocket serves as the essential organ-like container—an intimate and purposeful vessel. For NULLUS Autumn/Winter 2026 collection, we examine this fundamental yet often overlooked component under the theme “Boy’s Pockets,” delving into its multifaceted significance in the lives of boys.
The evolution of pockets reflects changes in social roles. From the teardrop-shaped pockets inside suit jackets designed for pens or cigars, to the functional adaptations seen in military wear, pocket design has always been driven to extremes by practical needs.
While paying homage to classic menswear, NULLUS aims to unlock the potential of garment craftsmanship, reconstructing pockets with greater detail and artistry.
The designer merges layers with pocket flaps and shifts opening positions; uses inset techniques to give a single three-dimensional workwear patch pocket three openings; enlarges the shape of “N” to serve as two pockets, even extending a single pocket into a crossbody bag at the waist; and transforms the NULLUS window motif into a hand-folded layered curtain form which becomes a hidden small pouch. The fabrics chosen are classic yet rebellious: glossy two-toned goatskin, naturally textured tumbled goatskin suede, wool-silk herringbone with pink speckles, and undyed antique kemp wool tweed. Their superior textures and structure, combined with tailoring and details, create a masculine image of defined order underlaid with a sense of sauvage.
At the same time, we did not want pockets to become the eye-catching focal points. Their lines are meant to be geometrically streamlined, even concealed within layers. A pocket should be a private space—others may see the garment’s silhouette, but not the secrets within. Inside might be an everyday phone, an old coin left by a father, a candy slipped in by a lover, or a meaningful stone picked up on a journey. It carries a man’s habits, preferences, and those gentle, solitary moments not meant for others to peek and speak.
