Country Rebels 08 is OUT ๐น
Were excited to share this chapter with y'all!
Featuring researcher, writer & radio host Jamal Khadar ( @krolobykhadar ) for a conversation about the forces of Country Music. ๐พ
/
Starting with the era of early recording, when Country was still referred to as Hillbilly Music. Jamal tells us about the cross-cultural flows that crystalized the genre & how commerce stormed in to split up American music into racially divided recordings. Yet at it's core, Country Music is & has always been, rooted in cultural diversity.
/
We expand our view beyond the US > tracing how Country was already moving globally, as it was still in its formation.
/
Summing up the the conversation with what we called,
โฉ 'Rebellion through Conversation' โช
What are the seeds of resistance? Who are the inward-facing, storytelling, quiet rebels we tend to overlookโeven though they are central to mobilizing change?
Tune into the Country Rebels conversation dear friends. Once again.

We can find ourselves locked away from the world in our work, when in reality - expression & innovation relays on community. Jamaica reminds us of that.

On a full-moon night in Jamaica, Nyabinghi, one of the most ancient Rastafari ceremonial practices, unfolds as a living ritual in which drums, chants, and fire gather bodies into a shared field of clarity. โTonight we a chant,โ a young Rasta tells German Iraki, author of the book โGet Nuff Nuff Dataโ. โWe a do the opposite of what the evil man a do. We use the moon for prosperity and to fight evil spells.โ Nyabinghi uses rhythm to cleanse; it is a kind of spiritual technology, transforming communal presence into a practice of grounding, healing, and collective awareness.

This production with Alanyoโs ally @ijahbar_ made us appreciate the qualities of a live session video.
The energy can come across different. Rawness is what we love. Many times music videos canโt do that, this is the why we came to appreciate simplicity in this production.
