“Extreme Repair Lab” presents work from Year 4 design students at CU INDA, applying architectural thinking to product design. The work addresses contemporary topics of sustainability, consumption and innovation through the lens of repair.
Repair is proposed here as a design methodology to reimagine objects through the hybridizing of typologies and aesthetics. The designers bring maximalist formal approaches and extreme functional proposals to the otherwise very humble endeavor of repair - reconfiguring and upgrading the original product into something completely unexpected.
The studio’s focus is on the objects found in domestic spaces, reimagined via extreme repair for future living scenarios. The work is carried out through phygital workflows where the designers mix 3d-scanning, digital modeling and 3d-printing with hand-craft and hand-drawing.
Final outcomes are not simple repairs and restorations but new and bold objects, emerging to invite collective dreaming about yet unseen futures.
