Ahoy Landlubbers! The Pirates of Penzance is coming to Killerton! ☠️

Join @illyriatheatre for an evening of glittering wit, razor sharp satire and glorious music.
Frederick, apprenticed to Pirates as a child, is indentured to the Pirate King until his 21st birthday. The Pirate King learns that Frederick was born in a leap year on 29th February, checks the contract’s small print – and realises he has only had four birthdays. Will Frederick be forced to serve the pirates until he is 84? And will his sweetheart, Mabel, wait for him that long? Gilbert and Sullivan’s most popular operetta is performed by a 6-strong cast of actor/singers with a fully orchestrated accompaniment.
This is an outdoor production, so please bring a chair or blanket to sit on, a picnic to dig into, and dress for the weather.

Get ready to be peeled off your seat with laughter and be dazzled and amazed as we serve you potatoes like you’ve never seen them before. We’ve got daredevil knife throwing, dizzying acrobats, amazing aerialists, an astonishing wire walk, a classically trained dog, and many more top-class acts!
There’s even a special appearance from the elusive green fairy herself-we promise you; you’re going to love it!!! (The show is not specifically made for kids but in our experience, they have a great time!)

Today we introduce new Volunteer Dog Ranger, Tui (white nose and ranger bib), with her owner Vivienne and her daughter, Tegan. Vivienne also cares for two other spaniels! 🐾
They have been dog walking at Killerton since 2003, and these days Vivienne often come into Killerton woods to do some gundog training with Tegan.
As a Volunteer Dog Ranger, Tui, will take the lead for nature on the estate and help local wildlife by sharing knowledge, advice and the occasional poo bag with others enjoying our places, in partnership with @forthglade and supported by @devonlovesdogs .

🚗 Roadworks Notice 🚗
There will be some roadworks taking place next week between Ellerhayes and Budlake, hopefully with minimal disruption during our main opening hours. This is to perform some much-needed surface dressing.
Work is weather dependant and is scheduled between Tuesday 12-Saturday 16 May. We will update with progress of the work on our website.

With the Met Gala behind us, we’re looking at Killerton’s own combination of fashion and art for this week’s #FashionFortnight.
Sometimes Fashion really is Art, as in this painted silk gown. The silk fabric that this sack-back gown was made from in about 1770, was woven and hand-painted in China. There workshops were dedicated to producing decorated silks for trade with European merchants. The designs were often a mix of traditional Chinese motifs and popular European depictions of floral sprigs and bouquets. Mineral pigments were mixed with gum to produce vibrant colours. Some were made using semi-precious stones such as malachite to produce green. The pigments were used to colour in the printed outlines of each motif.

This historic watermill in Broadclyst village on the Killerton estate is open today, 6 May, and 8-10 May. 1pm-4pm.
On Wednesday 6 May & Saturday 9 May, you can also explore the industrial heritage of milling and create your own artwork to take home.
Join the brilliant printmakers from @doubleelephantprintworkshop , for a free, fun, hands‑on printmaking workshop. All ages and abilities welcome. 🙂 Drop in anytime 1–3pm . The workshop is free.
