Weeks posts
In less than two weeks over 1,000 people, including as members or representatives of over 70 organisations co-signed the open letter to political leaders of our city (region). Solidarity, gratitude, love and rage to all of you who shared and signed it! Across the two marches around 200 people were harmed by police violence. Britain First’s presence might be a distant headline or memory for the officers suited and booted in riot gear, or indeed those who govern our city, but to community members who took action instead of hiding behind hollow statements and #hashtags, and either experienced or witnessed the brutality of GMP and supporting police forces in their efforts to facilitate Britain First march through our city both dates are engrained into our consciousness and fuel our resolve to continue to build community power and resistance. Today NPMP members will deliver the open letter to those addressed. When we have updates we will share them. For now, please do continue to send your accounts to @netpolcampaigns

Did you experience or witness police violence at the protest against Britain First in Manchester on Saturday 18th April 2026? Netpol is working with the Northern Police Monitoring Project to put together a report on the policing of the demonstration. This evidence will be supported by legal observer notes, police and government data, media coverage and Freedom of Information requests. We will use this report to hold the police to account. In particular, we want accounts of the following: 1. Use of force: punches, kicks, batons, hair pulling, pressure to the neck/throat. 2. Use of pepper spray: close range, no warning, indiscriminate, removal of eye/face protection. 3. Kettling and blocked medical care: force in kettles, medics denied access, forced removal of face masks to refuse treatment. We ask that all submissions are made by May 18th, one month on from the demonstration. Send all testimonies to: netpoladmin [at] protonmail.com Please share widely. Photo credit: @tom_bell98

📣HANDS OFF OUR BODIES! WOMEN RESIST POLICE!📣 Join our demonstration against police sexual violence on Saturday 30th May, 2pm at Piccadilly Gardens. Shame on GMP! We know the police perpetrate sexual violence in defence of the rotten capitalist-imperialist system. GMP have been granted an extra £14.1 million for their budget this year from the council, money which is stolen from our communities and used to fund the abuses of the police. We demand a better world with funding for women's services and a liveable life for all! Together we resist the weaponised shame whereby these sexist attacks are protected and kept under wraps, and condemn the systemic injustice of policing. We declare the victims have nothing to be ashamed of and that it is the police and their supporters who should feel shame! As socialist youth we reject these attacks on our bodies, calling on all young people and women to join us in this demonstration to fight police sexual violence!

The community open letter was signed by over 1000 of us. It’s been hand delivered to Andy Burnham, Kate Green, and Bev Craig. We sent it by email too, just for good measure. When we have an update we shall let you know! ✊🏽

‼️ POLICE FACILITATE FASCIST PHOTOSHOOT ‼️ This past Sunday at the Manchester South Hotel the police facilitated a fascist photoshoot, threatening anti-fascists with arrest and allowing violent racists to have a photoshoot outside the hotel. This is a continuation of a near 9 month campaign of intimidation against the people seeking asylum inside the hotel. If it wasn’t clear before it is now: The police do NOT keep us safe, and they have picked a side. Only we can keep our community safe!

"Being there for their appeals for the Manchester 10... The love, and the families feeling that they're held and the strength they take from that... Hundred percent, the state despises it." Big up @kidsofcolourhq @npolicemonitor @ngbamanchester and all the others building community love against state violence in Manchester. Podcast link in story and bio 🎧

🚨SHAME ON GMP! SHAME ON ANDY BURNHAM🚨 On Saturday 18th April, @andyburnhamgm published a statement applauding how the communities of Manchester support each other, stating racism and hate had no place in our city and that the police were working to keep everyone safe. Later that day the Greater Manchester Police, who report to Burnham, injured over 150 anti-fascists including the use of patriarchal and sexual violence. It is true communities came out to support each other. It is true that racism has no place in Manchester. It is true that the efforts of medics and protestors kept people safe. None of this was due to the police, nor to Andy Burnham, who was a driving force behind the £14.4 million extra funding the police were granted this year - money they are using to support brutalising antifascists. Standing together, we resisted the violent and patriarchal state. Standing together and resisting was what protected people. Organised resistance is the only path forward. Follow @youngstruggle_manchester to keep up with the campaign against police sexual abuse and add your signature to the demands! HANDS OFF OUR BODIES! WOMEN RESIST POLICE!

‼️ ANDY BURNHAM, SHAME ON YOU: Accounts from the front lines ‼️ We are calling on Andy Burnham and the GMP to address the police’s horrific violence against protestors at last weekend’s counter to Britain First. The show of solidarity and care was beautiful - this was yet another reminder that the police do not keep us safe, WE keep us safe 🫂 Please sign the letter from @npolicemonitor in their bio and follow @youngstruggle_manchester to keep up with their Hands Off Our Bodies campaign ❤️‍🩹 Photo creds: @fieldsoflightphotography @just.barold

In Manchester on Saturday, Police officers were once again deliberately not wearing their identifying shoulder epaulettes. And we have the pictures of it...
