Haydn's sense of the ridiculous can also be seen in The Frog Quartet (the last of his Prussian Quartets) when he writes rapid string crossings imitating the croaking of a frog and its hopping about. More humour is seen in the second quartet, also in D major, when a characteristically wild Hungarian dance is played with open strings zinging about.
Iryna Chupryna tops it all with Scottish songs arranged by Haydn with one, Will ye go to Flanders having such contemporary relevance, that Nova will link to the traditional Ukrainian anti-war song, Plyve Kacha. Ukrainian soprano, Iryna Chupryna, sang with the National Opera of Ukraine in Kyiv and known for her "luscious, dark eastern European tone". She has worked several times with Nova - we like her!
Hosted by the Friends of Forgue Kirk, this special performance will last around 2 hours with a short interval half way through. During this interval guests can enjoy a selection of drinks and nibbles.

The year has started very cold and snowy in Aberdeen, the thick snow feeling like we're in a fantasy world. Howard Shore's music for the Lord Of The Rings trilogy is a masterpiece, taking us from the idyllic Shire to the horrors of Mount Doom and the grand city of Minas Tirith.

"Nova Quartet was truly spectacular. I adore quartets and find all music played on strings to be so ethereal, whimsical and truly breathtaking. Not only did Nova Quartet deliver on my vision they really went above and beyond. Not many people can say they got married at a Castle in Scotland, and it was truly magical. But my favorite part of the entire wedding was Nova Quartet. I asked for 'Once Upon a December' to be played and it brings tears to my eyes everytime I think of this moment. Walking into the castle and hearing it play was a dream that became a reality.
Their playing was beautiful, and everyone loved them! I was really happy with how impressed our guests were with the music choices played. The @thefifearms in Braemar was looking absolutely stunning when we were there a couple of weeks ago to celebrate Richard's birthday. The evening had a James Bond theme, complete with casino tables!
We had a wonderful meal at the Flying Stag before performing, thank you to the staff for making sure we had enough time. The team at the Fife Arms looked after us very well.
The hotel was gorgeous inside and outside. We loved the genuine Picasso painting and the Robert Burns fireplace. Next time you find yourself in Braemar, make sure to check out the hotel, it is so beautiful.
