After spending last fall in Berlin, I came back to Istanbul dreaming of returning in spring. 🤩 I started reaching out to collectives, friends, event series saying I’d love to play, collaborate or help with productions. Most replies were kind, but mostly “sorry, we’re fully booked.” No one was really offering future plans either, and honestly it felt like nobody cared. 🥲 Arriving in Berlin, March 5th with no plans felt heavy. 🫠 As someone creating non-profit queer safe spaces in Istanbul for 12 years, @qwistanbul it made me sad how hard it is to find space to share my passion for queer dance floors and how impossible long-term planning can feel with visa restrictions. Reading @staramerasu recent interview, who I met in Berlin back in 2018 🫶🏼 really stayed with me: “I truly don’t care about the circumstances as long as I get to create.” ❤️‍🔥 That feeling carried me through this whole spring.
