An Exhibition on @Artsy Not Shockboxx invites artists from everywhere to submit work for Wild, Weird, and Wonderful, a fully online exhibition celebrating the bold, the unexpected, and the unapologetically original. This is a space for work that does not quite fit anywhere else. The pieces that are too strange, too playful, too loud, too emotional, too layered, or too hard to explain. The work that makes people pause, laugh, question, or feel something they did not expect. We are not looking for safe. We are not looking for polished perfection. We are looking for work that has a pulse. All mediums are welcome including painting, photography, sculpture, prints, textile, mixed media, video, and beyond. If it translates visually and holds its own in a digital space, we want to see it. This is a juried exhibition, and all selected works will be presented exclusively on Artsy.net as part of Not Shockboxx’s digital programming. The exhibition will be live for eight weeks. ART IS KEEPING US ALIVE Independent art spaces don’t survive on their own. They survive because artists, collectors, and community decide they matter. This exhibition is exactly that. “Art Is Keeping Us Alive” brings together artists who have donated work to help sustain Not Shockboxx — a queer-owned, artist-forward gallery built for bold, strange, thoughtful work that doesn’t always fit neatly inside traditional systems. Every piece in this exhibition was contributed in support of keeping this weird little art space alive. Join us for opening night: May 21 Not Shockboxx, 636 Cypress Avenue in Hermosa Beach The exhibition will feature donated works across mediums, all available for acquisition in support of the gallery’s future. Special thanks to Gallery Artist Anjalè Perrault for creating the exhibition cover artwork and for contributing to the show. Artists supporting artists. Artists supporting spaces. Artists keeping weird little art spaces alive. #NotShockboxx #HermosaBeachArt #ContemporaryArt #QueerArt #SouthBayArt #SupportLocalArt #IndependentGallery #ArtIsKeepingUsAlive

We’re proud to welcome our newest official Gallery Artist — James Frost @myunspokenocean James’ work exists in that rare space where atmosphere and emotion become inseparable. His pieces pull you into layered worlds that feel both familiar and slightly untethered — cinematic, textured, and deeply human. There’s a tension between stillness and movement in his work that lingers long after you’ve stepped away. As part of our Gallery Artist program, James’ work will be featured more consistently across Not Shockboxx — including on our Artsy account, where collectors can discover and acquire his work beyond the gallery walls. This program is something we’ve been building with intention — a way to go deeper with artists we believe in, support their growth, and create more opportunities for their work to be seen and collected. You can explore James’ full profile and available work at: notshockboxx.com/james-frost/ And keep an eye on our Artsy to see what’s live. This is just the beginning.

Not Shockboxx was alive once again yesterday at the State of the Art event to benefit @indivisible_arts . We were happy sponsors to the event and shared our spaces to help show off some pretty magnificent art. Thank you to all of the artists that graced our walls and the amazing crew who installed all the work!

Another field trip to @madmuseum in the big apple DID NOT DISAPPOINT as we got to see the @thehaasbrothers exhibit. Probably my favorite exhibit ever. How inspiring and awesome. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND. 🔥🔥🔥 To see the textiles and “craft” of art fully be embraced mainstream says a lot about where art is going. I hope our Knot Sorry exhibit in August can be a nod to the brothers!

Buckle up because NEXT WEEKEND May 16 is poppin' off in our little creative arts district on Cypress Avenue. Both The Studio and Not Shockboxx are proud sponsors of this incredible event and we'll also be included in the event itself this year! You'll tour through The Studio and see a Shepard Fairey Shepard Fairey exhibit and then meander through Not Shockboxx for the official silent auction of the event. What an honor to be included and help support the important work of young artists. If you haven't already, grab your tickets so you don't miss out. Trust us... this isn't the event to miss. There’s something subversive about softness. Knot Sorry pulls fiber art out of the polite, domestic corner and into the spotlight where it belongs — bold, labor-intensive, intimate, and impossible to ignore. This exhibition celebrates work made by hand, by time, by tension. Quilts that carry stories. Garments that feel like armor or confession. Threads that bind, unravel, and reassemble meaning. We’re interested in fiber as both material and message. The slow process. The repetitive act. The history stitched into every surface. And the ways artists are pushing these traditions into something sharper, stranger, more personal. Bring us the pieces that blur the line between craft and fine art. The ones that feel obsessive. Tender. Unapologetic. Work that holds weight — physically or emotionally — whether it’s stitched, knotted, woven, sewn, or layered into mixed media. This is about care and control. About labor you can see. About softness that doesn’t ask permission. No apologies. No minimizing. Knot Sorry. Apply at NotShockboxx.com
