The 🖤 @blackzinefair 🖤 is a celebration of all things Black and independent publishing in New York City! Zine makers, educators, collectors, and the zine-curious are invited to gather, trade or sell zines, and exchange knowledge surrounding zine-making, publishing, and do-it-yourself culture. The fair is 🖤 free 🖤 and open to the public! Come through and support Black zine makers who otherwise wouldn’t have access to other zine/art/book fairs and festivals or institutions! I’m excited to participate as an exhibitor alongside 50 other exhibitors and educators. In addition to a suminagashi inspired zine that is a reimagining of my undergraduate thesis, “Greyscale”, and some of my film projects turned pocket zines, I will have archival color prints of my photography on sale (for the 1st time ever) 🖤 Date: Saturday, May 11 🖤 Time: 11am-6pm 🖤 Location: @powerhouse_arts (322 3rd Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215) 🖤 Cost: Free with RSVP (link on profile) 🖤 Credit: BZF poster collage by Malachy Lily (@theholyhawkmoth ) #blackwriters #blackartists #blackzinefair #zinesters #photography #empheraforsale #postersforsale #zinesforsale #zinesforever #writemore #createmore #domore #nyc #brooklyn

good evening, print media lovers! NOTESOFHYPE (@notesofhype ) is a small independent press run by mixed-media artist and archivist Hypatia Sorunke (@itshypatia ). They construct printed works (prints, posters, bookmarks, zines, and books) through processes involving: the darkroom, collage art, archival media, and research to document black (&) queer lineages, cultural impact, and political movements in sports, media, and entertainment from a global perspective. Our table will be showcasing a plethora of works, including: 🖤 A Women’s Basketball Fashion Archive: The Fitted W, 🖤 The Sport of Organizing the Black Action Heroine, 🖤 Greyscale, and 🖤 Archival Darkroom Prints! The praxis of this press is to make print works and paper arts accessible so we will have zines available for free and for trade! Can’t wait to meet you all soon! 🖤 Date: Saturday, May 9th 🖤 Time: 11am-6pm 🖤 Location: @powerhouse_arts 🖤 Organized by @sojourners4justice P.S. Thank you so much to @sojourners4justice and @blackzinefair for having NOTESOFHYPE back this year; it means the world to have been apart of the inaugural BZF in 2024 and to have the privilege to see the tremendous growth in such a short period of time with so much care and love in mind!

I’m excited to be showing some work at @millennium_film through the end of next week (8/15) for the show “Paradise is a place in your head” curated by the best: @stmarkspl & @charles.caesar ☘️🌟 I love showing my work alongside other talented photographers, and honestly—this is such a great selection of images that speak to the artistic practice of seeking, constructing, and unveiling personal paradises—very grateful to be showing you all a piece of mine.🪲🌞🌳 ⭐️ If you have any questions about any of the work or want to schedule a viewing, contact the curatorial team more information (dm is fine)⭐️ And as always a special thanks to everyone who participated in “el estado del mundo” years ago— it is such a feat to create resonant work that transcends time & place🫶🏽 - - - - - - #photography #exhibition #nycphotographer #queerphotographer #blackphotographer #filmphotographer #prints #paradise #groupshow #nyc #35mm

Barnard Library Research Award winner Hypatia Sorunke shares some of their findings from their research in the Barnard Zine Library and Barnard Archives. They explore Blackness and Black masculinities in Blaxploitation, as well as queer and feminist movements' impact on the genre. Their collages were made with Ebony magazines held by the library.

“love like water” is a meditation on transmutation. come sit with it for a bit @ 6pm. see you soon! _______ REPOST: IN MY DREAMS, WE WERE FREE an extremely personal project and dream exhibition. Funded by the city of Austin’s Nexus grant this Pop- up exhibition showcases the work of Aika Akhmetova (new york), Hypatia Sorunke (new york), Temitope Olujobi (austin) and zakkiyyah najeebah dumas- o’neal (chicago). Through research methods, personal documentation and poetic expression all artists use a variety of mixed digital media such as moving picture, video assemblage/collaging, short films and virtual modeling to engage in concepts of identity, self discovery/determination, feelings of home and questions of freedom under capitalist and imperialist systems. This pop-up exhibit will be up for a LIMITED time from March 18-22nd at Mass Gallery in East Austin, 705 Gunter st. Special shout out to @ani.data and the Mass team for hosting this project. On March 22nd we will host a special closing event with my good friends at @donotdisturbcollective free and open to the public to celebrate the work of these amazing artists and our Austin arts community. Featured image: Video still from “to render the infinite” by zakkiyyah najeebah dumas-o’neal It’s been a true pleasure. Hope to see you there! - @tayxday

el estado del mundo (2021) @carvermuseumatx — It’s been really refreshing visiting old work and having that be the foundation that I start to grow what has been a purely digital practice into something that can live alongside us in a real way. I’m sitting on 3 years of work so there will be more to come—lots more. 🌵🤩 #photographer #exhibition #blackqueerartist #35mm #minolta7000 #texas #newyork

My work is on view @carvermuseumatx until Friday, Jan 14th, so this is the last weekend you’ll be able to stop by and check out the exhibition in person; “El Estado del Mundo, invites us to question the desire to resume a form of "normalcy" built around an amoral social and economic system. Their work creates an unrushed state of being that is of this moment and synchronously a departure, encouraging us to (de)center trauma by allowing space for grief, growth, and healing.” sound by: @imjonum
