hyaline is an interdisciplinary live performance; a new collaboration between artists x/o and gooie. Drawing from cycles in nature such as slug mating rituals, isopod molting and mycelial networks, hyaline is an exercise in biomimicry, sonic and material experimentation. hyaline explores processes from nature in relation to community formation, vulnerability, care, and self-actualization, to reflect upon queerness existing beyond the human experience. The work is conceived as part performance art, part live experimental music. Instruments include the performers’ bodies, voice, and a limited set of live sound sources such as laptop, contact mics, mixer, biosonification device, and wireless microphones. Content Warning: This performance contains heavy strobe lighting, and loud noise. Earplugs will be provided. GT is dedicating our live set of 13 unreleased tracks to the Filipino community and to everyone who’s been with us in our journey of healing 🤍 logo by @rantau_tawuran What does a ceremony for healing look like to us? Reflecting on this question shaped our journeys—from the Cordillera mountains and chain-smoking Marlboro Reds by the riversides of Leyte, to palm-wine hangovers before diving into thousand-year-old corals in Limasawa; from the limestone, shapeshifting stalagmites of Samar to falling in love in nightclubs of Bangkok. From forming and deepening relationships through movement at our community Arnis meetups in the brisk air beneath the trees of Cottonwood Garden, to the beating sun and soft sand of Sunset Beach; to the cockfights and open-air bailihan hosted by barangay tanods in Bicol; the prayers offered to the foreshores of Bali; the punishing full bass of the soundsystem in Colon, Cebu; the wispy nights of euphoria in Sai Gon; and the quiet rituals before fishing in the open oceans of Samar. From hastily producing budots at NAIA to the reclusive sonic explorations inside a garage studio in the DTES. In moments of tragedy on Turtle Island, we are reminded of how colonial histories—here and across the world—have stripped us of the collective traditions that once bound us together when we needed them most. Following Lapu-Lapu day, GT’s creative process happened simultaneously across the Pacific between “Vancouver” and Ormoc, Philippines. Gulod Tanawin became a conduit for channeling grief and solidarity, alongside moments of euphoria and healing—bouncing field recordings, readings, samples, JPEGs, videos, and project files across the Pacific. It is a studio process stretched across time zones, held together through WhatsApp video calls that often end in fading signals and broken reception.
